The news reported that one of the 4 hunters on the phony Goose hunt was a board member of Ducks Unlimited,

I have thought of this organization as a respectable organization. I would like to know why they would be associated with such a disgusting character as J Kerry, and a phony photo-op.

Email for Ducks Unlimited: http://www.ducks.org/about/contact.asp

You have to watch out for some of these "sportsman" groups. The enviro's have gotten smart in the last few years and are now forming groups that are on the surface sympathetic to sportsman. Then when you get their publications it all about "the Republicans are poisoning the water and the ducks and bass are all dying!"

One good organization that really is for the sportsman and sensible conservation is B.A.S.S.. I've belonged to them for much of my life and they are conservative and good people. At least they have been in the past.

They are the best conservation organization out there, in my opinion. They work with both Republicans and Democrats to further their agenda, namely habitat preservation and reclamation. They highly praised Bush in their recent monthly magazine for his work on some farm and habitat bills. Obviously they try to work with both sides, so I wouldn't be too bothered by it.

Free Publicity

That sometimes isn't a good thing.
Until this thread I had no idea DU (the other one) was involved in John "Hanoi" Kerry's campaign.
My membership is now cancelled.

Free bad, very bad publicity.

As I told another freeper this morning, the Ducks Unlimited guys that I know, would just as soon piss on Kerry.

Hey, they work both sides of the aisle to get the things they treasure accomplished....... Hunting, wildlife preservation, etc aren't just Republican issues, or are they?

DU Maintains Political Neutrality in Presidential Race

We are aware that U.S. Senator John Kerry hunted Canada geese in Ohio earlier today (October 21, 2004). Press reports show that the Senator was wearing a Ducks Unlimited hat and that he was hunting with a local Ducks Unlimited member and supporter.

Ducks Unlimited is a non-partisan organization. DU has no affiliation with any political party, nor do we endorse any political candidate. However, it should be recognized that in support of our wildlife habitat conservation work, the Ducks Unlimited logo is branded on many products, including hats, jackets, and other clothing.

One gentleman on the trip was misidentified as a local Ducks Unlimited "board" member. He is not a member of Ducks Unlimited's board of directors. No one was there to represent Ducks Unlimited in any way during the hunting trip. Ducks Unlimited has 1 million members and supporters who also have a variety of political affiliations.

You should check Ducks Unlimited's web site before you make your final decision. I don't know whose telling the truth but I would lean towards giving DU some slack on this one.

Ducks Unlimited has pretty much the same agenda as the Sierra Club: collect $$$$$$ in the name of conservation.

Please call Ducks Unlimited (1-800-45DUCKS or 901-758-3825) and explain to them your anger, disappointment, and that Ducks Unlimited statement about "Political Neutrality" isn't good enough. Exhibit your outrage on the phone (if you are, as I am) and let them know your future contributions to DU will be dependent upon how they handle this Kerry opportunistic maneuver.

Ducks Unlimited is truly a bi-partisan organization, and always has been.

I noted that it is a fine organization. They are now headquartered in my home city, Memphis.

I would just like clarification to the public that they were not endorsing Kerry.

Duck Unlimited has been pro-hunter in years past but for a fairly long time now they have been much more pro-Duck than pro-Hunter.

If you will read their mission statement it does not address hunter issues but goes much closer to the conservationists and therefore DU(not Democrat Underground) are not near what they were when it was established.

My husband and his buddies used to give tons of money to D.U. back in the early '80's - all of them hunters and decoy collectors. He hasn't made a donation in years because they've been taken over by the Environazis just like the Sierra Club.

DU....and DU.... are a pair of really phony groups just now. Many well intentioned folks who knew DU when they were a part of the hunting community instead of the conservation group as well as a very large money source for the conservation folks still support DU under the mistaken notion that they are supporting a group which was started and promoted originally by hunters.

You're right about this. I gave up on Outdoor Life and Field & Stream a LONG time ago. I believe they are out of NEW YORK CITY, and thus left-leaning when it comes to 2nd Amendment rights and other issues REALLY important to REAL hunters and shooters. They are FAKES like "life-long" "hunter" and "gun owner" John FUDD Kerry.
