NBC BLOWS A HOLE IN NY TIMES' EXPLOSIVES STORY (KERRY SPOT)
The Kerry Spot, NRO ^ | 10/25/04 | Jim miclacevski

KERRY SPOT

Jim Miklaszewski of NBC News pretty much dismantled the New York Times attack on behalf of Kerry today.

NBC News: Miklaszewski: “April 10, 2003, only three weeks into the war, NBC News was embedded with troops from the Army's 101st Airborne as they temporarily take over the Al Qakaa weapons installation south of Baghdad. But these troops never found the nearly 380 tons of some of the most powerful conventional explosives, called HMX and RDX, which is now missing. The U.S. troops did find large stockpiles of more conventional weapons, but no HMX or RDX, so powerful less than a pound brought down Pan Am 103 in 1988, and can be used to trigger a nuclear weapon. In a letter this month, the Iraqi interim government told the International Atomic Energy Agency the high explosives were lost to theft and looting due to lack of security. Critics claim there were simply not enough U.S. troops to guard hundreds of weapons stockpiles, weapons now being used by insurgents and terrorists to wage a guerrilla war in Iraq.” (NBC’s “Nightly News,” 10/25/04)

If Jill Abramson, managing editor of the New York Times, had a shred of concern over her paper's reputation for getting the facts right never mind objectivity or fairness, she would be running the correction - or at least this blatantly contradictory information - in the giant headline font and above-the-fold location that today's story got. But I guess the interest in echoing the sentiments of Maureen Dowd is more important than getting it right at the Old Gray Lady.

Any link to the second one, though? The msnbc article linked doesn't mention the embed, and actually quotes an "anonymous pentagon official" saying the troops were there and found the explosives intact after the invasion.

NBC contradicts the Times because the Times is claiming, or at least implying, that the HX vanished while the facility was under coalition control. The embedded reporter's testimony shows that it was either removed by the Ba'athists in advance of the invasion, or hastily removed during the invasion.

Either way, while it's distressing the bad guys presumably have access to the stuff, it's not a political hit against Bush or the US military that the stuff isn't where the IAEA said it was.

And now NBC will only drown out tomorrow's hit pieces on Bush by the WaPo and NYT.. GOOD! I never thought I'd say thanks to NBC.

Not only that, rocky88, but even the Perky Communist on the Today Show, in interviewing Flurch Munster, said that while you (Kerry) are talking about how the Republicans are trying to fear and smear, your side talks about a danger to Social Security, a danger of the draft...isn't your side the 'pot calling the kettle black'...???

Heck, I guess it's true...even a broken watch is right twice a day.

Yep. I recall they had surveillance of truck/convoy movements, did they not?

Thank you! I thought I was nuts. I believe even one of the guards told about this. Obviously, not a SH loyalist. Seems to me that's where some one of this stuff went.

BTW, Did anyone catch the Bush interview with Sean tonight? It was pretty good. Alot of the same ol same ol, but it shows a stark contrast between the two candidates. Will you EVER see Kerry open up like Bush does, how he shows emotion? Kerry apparently can't connect like Bush does.

Did you also notice that for the last few nights, Alan has mentioned that there have been repeated invitations to the Kerry camp to do an interview with Alan and they either haven't responded, or refused? I mean, come on, Alan is as left as Kerry is, so what would he be afraid of?

Don't these MSM dorks know about Google as a research tool before they sit down to write a smear piece? Don't they realize that the pajamahadeen will immediately word search the background to their story six ways from Sunday to see if there's a weak link in their argument? Good Lord, these previous reports on this matter were very public and would have turned up with the most cursory check of the facts. Are they stupid, careless or just plain arrogant?

"They revealed how far they are willing to go to destroy this President, and in effect, immunized him. They don't have the power to destroy this man."

Exactly, Soul Seeker!

They have thrown out so many wild accusations, that the American people have built up an immunity, of sorts, and everything now rolls off W's back.

At this point, they could reveal that W was present at a Michael Jackson pajama party, and viewers would just filter it out.

They've immunized the public against an October surprise!

Michael Moore, in my book, has done more to advance the conservative cause than anyone I can think of, except Reagan and Limbaugh.

Any chance he's secretly one of ours?

George W. Bush: "We will ... turn them one against another ... "

Apparently, when Bush said this he meant the MSM in addition to the terrorists.

The man is a strategerist

DeConcini said that??? Pinch me as I'm surely dreaming that NBC corrected the NYSlimes and DeConcini assessment of the article clearly pointed to WMDs which we said all along.

bttt = Bump To The Top. You can keep a thread at the top of the list in any of the forums with it if you think other Freepers would be interested. It will also put the thread on your ping list - very useful if you want to check in on a thread or read an article later, when you have more time, without having to do a search.

NBC News is stepping on the toes of blogger's! Give us a few hours and we would have figured it out. Anything printed in the BIASED NY Times can't have that strong of an argument. I suspect someday soon we will stop hearing that stupid term "unnamed source" which is just an open invitation to say any damn thing you want and let it do its damage. If someone discredits it so what. Wow that is real journalism.
