NBC BLOWS A HOLE IN NY TIMES' EXPLOSIVES STORY (KERRY SPOT)
The Kerry Spot, NRO ^ | 10/25/04 | Jim miclacevski

KERRY SPOT

Jim Miklaszewski of NBC News pretty much dismantled the New York Times attack on behalf of Kerry today.

NBC News: Miklaszewski: “April 10, 2003, only three weeks into the war, NBC News was embedded with troops from the Army's 101st Airborne as they temporarily take over the Al Qakaa weapons installation south of Baghdad. But these troops never found the nearly 380 tons of some of the most powerful conventional explosives, called HMX and RDX, which is now missing. The U.S. troops did find large stockpiles of more conventional weapons, but no HMX or RDX, so powerful less than a pound brought down Pan Am 103 in 1988, and can be used to trigger a nuclear weapon. In a letter this month, the Iraqi interim government told the International Atomic Energy Agency the high explosives were lost to theft and looting due to lack of security. Critics claim there were simply not enough U.S. troops to guard hundreds of weapons stockpiles, weapons now being used by insurgents and terrorists to wage a guerrilla war in Iraq.” (NBC’s “Nightly News,” 10/25/04)

If Jill Abramson, managing editor of the New York Times, had a shred of concern over her paper's reputation for getting the facts right never mind objectivity or fairness, she would be running the correction - or at least this blatantly contradictory information - in the giant headline font and above-the-fold location that today's story got. But I guess the interest in echoing the sentiments of Maureen Dowd is more important than getting it right at the Old Gray Lady.

I noticed Fox fell right in with NYT reporting this as a proven story.

If Brit reads his e-mail, I'm sure he will correct the record tomorrow night.

"Alan is as left as Kerry is, so what would he be afraid of?"

"Senator Kerry, did you receive a less than Honorable Discharge from the Navy"?

"Senator Kerry why haven't you signed a Form 180 to release your ENTIRE service medical file?"

Nothin' like a good game of rope-a-dope.

Am I in the Twilight Zone here? You mean NBC news didn't just go along with the NYT story?

The only thing that I can figure is that NBC believes Kerry's going to lose and doesn't want the CBS and NY Times anti-Bush slime to drip on them just before a new Bush four-year term begins.

Any link to the second one, though?

You don't need a link Chief, that paragraph is a quote form tonights NBC news and sourced as such at the end of the paragraph. It is what it is, evidence that the UN, the New York TImes and John Kerry all lied about the HE. It was never there in April 2003 so it could not have "disappeared" after Sep 2003. A crock of crap.

The msnbc article linked doesn't mention the embed, and actually quotes an "anonymous pentagon official" saying the troops were there and found the explosives intact after the invasion.

LOL, of course not, its a lie.

Yup. 44 states to Bush. The beer won't be Milwaukee's Best either, so save your sheckels.

The MSM is going to look back and realize what they have done one of these days. They revealed how far they are willing to go to destroy this President, and in effect, immunized him. They don't have the power to destroy this man.

AMEN! This is such a historic election in so many ways, one is the lack of power the MSN has to sway an election. Only those who have no eyes, ears, or brains will believe the slime that is coming before election day.

The families and friends of those who served in Vietnam will finally have their say as to who was the real monster.

Writing to the ombudsman or "public editor" is probably effective. After all, their job is to take the side of the readers. They do pay attention to the mail that they get. And sometimes, they respond favorably.

ya the Washington Post still has it on their front page. I dont understand why people even care about this, even if it was true.... The whole media just picks up something and goes with it and the whole time everyone in their audiance is like, "so...", but think they are alone and so are brainwashed into thinking, "well maybe it actually is a big deal". Repeating pattern.
