Originally, the Shreveport Times was a "conservative" paper. It endorsed Goldwater and Nixon, and I believe Ford and Reagan too in 1976 and 1980. Then when Michael Dukakis, John F. Kerry's "governor," came around, I think he was irrestible to the new breed of editors there. So it's no real surprise that Kerry attracted them too.
The hunters often do not vote in the December general elections because they forget to cast an absentee ballot. That helps the Democrats, who really can turn out the vote in the Orleans metro area. Sometimes the "living" in New Orleans vote in the name of "the dead."
It's on this thread: it occurred on, I think, O'Reilly where he was talking to Tony Snow who said his sources said Kerry was basically packing it in in FL. NRO disputes this, but it does sound legit to me. I've said for two weeks that FL and OH were all but in the bag, and that both camps knew it.

Everybody loves a winner, after all.
This is the Verne Kennedy poll which is using a 600 rolling 3-day tracking sequence now. The article mentions that on Monday Vitter came in at 54% which is what put him over the 50% line. Vitter is polling at some 63% in his home area, 57 in North LA, 41% in Acadiana and 41% in New Orleans. This poll clearly shows a trend upward for Vitter but with the MOE at 4% it offers a lot of wiggle room.
41% in Acadiana s/b 43% in Acadiana
Good stuff, especially about the 54% mark. Thanks!
Thanks for the info & link
Then Ellender died after the democrat field had been set and I don't remember if there was a Republican challenger or not.
Yes, there was a GOP candidate for the Senate in 1972. Ben Toledano polled only 17 percent, even as Nixon swept every parish. Two years earlier Toledano had lost the New Orleans mayoral election to a Democrat with a soon-to-be-popular name, Maurice "Moon" Landrieu, Carter's HUD secretary and father of current Sen. Mary Landrieu Snellings. The other 1972 candidate was the late Independent John McKeithen, who had just left the state's Democratic governorship. He was the father of current Secretary of State Fox McKeithen, the only LA Republican holding statewide office. John McKeithen was reportedly never reconciled to his son's Republicanism.
tied with Puff
Where does this nickname "Puff" come from?
Two years ago when Daschle was stonewalling all legislation, Rush said he was a gangsta, like "Puff Daddy" and the name stuck.
Yeah..but don't forget..blanco was elected by an incredible coalition of blacks and bigots.. central and northern parishes that voted for david duke magically voted for blanco..I guess they were impressed with her position on child care leave..blanco even lost her own home parish..sadly Bobby Jindal was the wrong color for those backward voting inbreds in those parishes..
