Does anyone have a picture of one of these IAEA seals?

They sound like big doors.

A picture of them will blow this thing wide open.

Proof that they were not easily missed.

This story is filled with IAEA backtracking from what they originally leaked to the NYT.

The U.N. nuclear agency said Thursday it warned the United States about the vulnerability of explosives stored at Iraq (news - web sites)'s Al-Qaqaa military installation after another facility — Iraq's main nuclear complex — was looted in April 2003.

They don't give up even when they're lying, do they?

What the IAEA won't tell you is that Deulfer (sp?) warned them they should be destroying the ammunitions, not just putting stickers on them.

They ignored our warning and now it's come back to bite them.

And the IAEA was told by the Security Council to remove the explosives in 1996 but they didn't because Saddam want to keep them for peacefull uses ie: construction projects so they took it upon themselves to let him keep them.

"Russia tied to Iraq's missing arms"

(Bill Gertz, Washington Post)
"Russian special forces troops moved many of Saddam Hussein's weapons and related goods out of Iraq and into Syria in the weeks before the March 2003 U.S. military operation, The Washington Times has learned."

UN makes millions off the Iraqi misery. UN allows Saddam to grow stronger. Bush warns UN. UN votes to do something about Saddam. UN refuses to do anything about Saddam. Bush does something about Saddam. UN criticizes Bush about doing something. Coalition finds some weapons, finds some missing, but also realized UN colluded with Saddam. The UN says it warned Bush that the things Bush warned UN about (but don't exist in the UN papers and Democrat mind) were taken while Bush is getting the UN to commit to solving the problems Bush warned the UN. Now UN criticizes Bush for not heeding the warning that came after the other warnings Bush gave to them.

Makes total sense.

As I recall, there were several European countries that stalled our action in the UN debacle. That gave Saddam warning and time to move the explosives.

"Fleming did not say which officials were notified or exactly when ... "

Then how can she say they were notified? An official notification would be addressed to a specific person or agency, and would be dated and filed. Until they can come up with documentation to back up what she is saying, I say she's lying. Why is it that we Freepers always have to ask the reporters' questions for them, the obvious questions that escape these trained professionals?

So 138 tons of this RDX stuff was not under a "seal". Only three (3) tons of the RDX were under seal.

How the hell a site many miles away from this complex with 138 tons of unsealed RDX becomes part of the story is just disgusting and the IAEA should be ashamed of what they are saying.

Now the IAEA indicates that they are going beck to check their notes that they should have at their finger tips ...

This whole story just reeks.

I read an article in here a few days ago, saying that the US had told the IAEA or UN to destroy what was in those sealed bunker, but the IAEA didn't think it was necessary, but they started moving them to another location, then decided that wasn't good and moved them back, but never did distroy them. I've been looking for that article for two days and not having luck.....does anyone remember reading that one?

The seal looks sort of like a cable-lock. Once opened or vborken, it can't be reclosed. It is nothing more than a tamper-indicator.

About like a locked window; it doesn't keep out anyone who wants in, but when you see the broken glass, you know somebody broke in.

They try to make it sound like the "sealing" is like the Egyptians did to the pyramids.

In an earlier article, they said the slats were easy to use to gain access:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1259604/posts

"The documents show IAEA inspectors looked at nine bunkers containing more than 194 tons of HMX at the facility. Although these bunkers were still under IAEA seal, the inspectors said the seals may be potentially ineffective because they had ventilation slats on the sides. These slats could be easily removed to remove the materials inside the bunkers without breaking the seals, the inspectors noted."

380 tons ( 2000 x 380 = 760,000 lbs) looted! The looters must have had really strong backs and legs, as well as endurance. Assume, 100 lbs per individual, it would take 7,600 men running down the road with a heavy load on their back. Hmmmm!

Now of course they could have taken it in their small trucks, so assume 1000 #/s'truck = 760 small trucks including 760 drivers - if done in one trips - or 7600 trips for one truck! Hmmmm!

Appears to me, they would have had to use some really large trucks!!! At 20,000#/l'truck, it would take 38 trucks. You would think, that 38 large trucks would have been noticed. Hmmmm!

One of the troops who spent a night at the site, aroung April 10, 2003, said the were many recent large truck tracks and many foot prints in the area around the empty storage bunkers. Hmmmm!

Indication are, Mr Kerry jumped on something that was wrong, and now he can't or will not get off it. One wonders how many uninformed, undecided voters will believe him!
