WILLIAMSON [West Virginia](AP) -- The first of five defendants charged in the murder of a Logan County woman, who was beaten beyond recognition, strangled and then drowned, has been sentenced to at least 70 years in prison.
Zandell Bryant, 44, of Dingess, was sentenced earlier this week in Mingo County Circuit Court to 40 years on a second-degree murder charge, 15 to 35 years on a first-degree sexual assault charge and 15 years to life on a kidnapping charge. All the sentences are to be served consecutively.
Bryant, one of five men charged in the death of 41-year-old Wanda Lesher, was found guilty Sept. 15.
Lesher was raped, beaten beyond recognition with a piece of nail-studded lumber, strangled and drowned when she tried to leave a party in August 2002.
This article gave me chills, that poor woman. Her last hours on this earth were spent in pain and terror because of those maggots. I hope she is now in peace.
These freaks should be fried - not hanging out watching tube and pumping iron.
Drop them off by parachute in Falujah, naked, with a pair of sandwich boards that say "Allah is gay!"
yeah, but DUmmies would tell you the death penalty in comparison is "cruel and unusual" punishment.
WTF is about right.
I thought Virginia had the death penalty?
Maybe this is the guy that turned states evidence?
Man, those Democrats are tough! When Jim Jeffords left the GOP, he wasn't treated like this!
'My daddy killed me with a knife,' boy tells 911
Wash. man held in wife's slaying; son recovering
By Associated Press | October 29, 2004
TACOMA -- A seriously wounded 8-year-old boy calmly described his father's deadly knife rampage during a call for help to 911. "My daddy killed me with a knife and I'm gone," the boy told a dispatcher. "Can you please send the Army men or the ambulance?"
The soft-spoken child gave a wrong address and then hung up. But a second dispatcher called back, keeping him on the line while a frantic search was underway.
On Wednesday, authorities released the remarkable tape of Anthony Sukto's calm courage during the Oct. 22 ordeal, and the frantic efforts to find him.
"What's going on there?" asked dispatcher Kristine Woodrow.
"My daddy killed me with a butcher knife," Anthony said.
"How did that happen if you are talking to me?" Woodrow asked.
"Because," Anthony answered. "I don't know what happened, but something. He grabbed knives. I woke up. My dad, he was killing my mom and then my, my, my dad told me to go onto the other bed and then he's like, 'You're next,' and then he killed me. I'm still alive. I kind of survived."
Woodrow said she was not sure if what she was hearing was for real.
"He was extremely calm," she recalled Wednesday. "It wasn't a typical response from someone who had just witnessed what he witnessed or had just been attacked."
Woodrow said while police and firefighters tried to find where Anthony was calling from, she tried to keep him on the phone.
"Are you bleeding, Anthony?" she asked. "Uh huh," he answered.
"Where are you bleeding from?" she asked. "From my stomach," he said.
"Are you there by yourself?" Woodrow asked. "No. My mom is already dead, and I am the only survivor," he said.
Authorities found the home minutes later when the child's father, Tony Sukto, 36, flagged down a firetruck. Sukto has been charged with the murder of his wife, Pranee, 39, and attempted murder of his son, and has pleaded not guilty.
Anthony underwent surgery for lacerations to his liver and is recovering.
There is some sick people out there.
According to prosecutors, the five men met Lesher at a Logan County bar on Aug. 31, 2002. The group of six left the bar in three different cars and met later at a place called Canterbury Cemetery at Dingess. After a lengthy time of drinking alcohol and forced sexual relations, Lesher was severely beaten with a board.
Leshers body was later found in a shallow grave at Schoolhouse Hollow. Aaron Nelson is now facing a Nov. 1 sentencing date after being convicted on the same charges
A sad, sad story. At least the goodness of our servicemen is well known to even to an 8 year old.
Obviously, she was trying to leave the DemocRAT party !!!
I heard this 911 audio and it really pissed me off.
poor kid.
Not good enough. Death by torture is in order.
The last execution in West Virginia was in the early 1950's. The death penalty was abolished in 1965.
Such a pity.
Figures in a state that idolizes KKK Byrd.
It took that long? Disgraceful and utterly shamless.
Hang em!
