Web site gives voice to soldiers on front lines (Caution New VVAW)
Arizona Daily Star ^ | 10/30/04 | Trudy Rubin

Take a look at a fascinating Web site called Operation Truth (www.optruth.org), which was recently started by a group of military veterans to present the views of soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The group pledges to educate the American public about the wars in both those countries from the perspective of soldiers who have served there, especially when "political approaches to military operations" cause problems on the front lines.

It also offers soldiers' perspectives on issues that affect the troops, from the role of private contractors in military operations, to the efforts to cut combat pay and the closing of Veterans Administration hospitals. Not to mention the effects of "Stop-loss" (preventing soldiers whose tours are completed from leaving the service).

Is this an anti-war group? I asked its founder executive director, Paul Rieckhoff, a first lieutenant in the New York National Guard who served in Iraq from the spring of 2003 to February 2004.

"We are not VVAW," Rieckhoff replied, referring to the Vietnam Veterans Against the War, in which the young John Kerry famously played an active role. "We are not against the war. A lot of us, me too, feel that it is salvageable.

Operation Truth

Anytime a left wing group starts up they usually talk about the "truth", and this one seems no different.

It all depends on whose "truth" they're talking about.

The author of this article, Trudy Rubin, is a hard Left member of the Philadelphia Enquirer editorial board. The PEnquirer has a deserved reputation for being far more radical than the NYTimes.

Outside of our opinion, does this violate uniform code?

I'm reading some of these testimonies. Can't some of these guys be charged?

Then it fits as to why she appeared with this disguised hit piece in the Arizona Daily Star, sometimes referred to as the Arizona RED Star by us.

It is difficult for me to believe that veterans can support Kerry after some of the things he has done, and not done as well.

Certainly there is going to be some bitching going on in the ranks, but that has always been so and always will be so. This article/group looks to me to actually be attempting to convince uninformed persons about issues in the Military.

The biggest problems (in the Army, anyhow) right now is the fact there are only ten deployable Divisions. This means that there will be a lot of deployments. That is an issue.

The Democrats made the cuts which resulted in the constricting of the Army. Once again we are learning the lessons from the Clinton Administrations. They cut Intelligence funding, fought terrorists in courtrooms with attorneys, reduced our Armed Forces, and manipulated circumstances so that the Markets declined just as President Bush came into office. Certainly the list is longer than just those things.

Some of the rhetoric coming from the democrats is ridiculous. Winning the Peace? What the heck is that? You win the Peace by kicking butt and subduing the enemy. There is so much nonsense coming from them that I can scarcely believe that anyone takes them seriously at all. It is absurd that this race is even remotely close.

A lot of anti-war sentiment could be changed if we could only get the documentary "Voices of Iraq" front and center!!! I have bumped the post several times but it doesn't seem to be getting much attention. It is good news from Iraq and good news for the President and we need to force it into the media! It is showing in 10 cities and they have a web site. It is truly a moving documentary! Search FR under 'voices of Iraq' or go to their web site and everyone who can should go see the film!

Ok, something doesn't seem right here.

This guy, Andrew Balthazor, claims to be ex-Military Intelligence officer who served 10 months in Baghdad,

I can't find him in any MIL lists.

In google, his 'story' is sourced on third party sites as 'coming from' here: www4.army.mil/ocpa/soldierstories/story.php?story_id_key=6265

YET even when I check caches and the web archives, I don't see it EVER listed there.

Thoughts?

Trouble is that so long as it stays on the web as blogger bait it doesn't work. It won't get anywhere until it is in theaters, on TV, and talked about in the papers.

Andrew Balthazor was a truckdriver and malcontent for KBR in Iraq. See: http://athens.indymedia.org/front.php3?lang=en&article_id=273148

Six will get you ten that a photo of PFC Andrew Balthazor does not match ex-Military Intelligence officer Andrew Balthazor. On the off chance it does match, this is the same crap the VVAW types did glorifed what little, if any they did/acheived to cause trouble.

indymedia? Sorry, that isn't a source. Indymedia receives Soros funds and has recently had their servers subpoenaed.
