Fasting for The Election on Monday
self | 10/30/04 | Self

Posted on 10/30/2004 9:41:54 AM PDT by Preech1

I would like to invite as many paople as possible to Fast and Pray on Monday, Nov. 1st for the re-election of George Bush on Tuesday. This election is a crucial one in our nations's history and quite possibly may effect the survival of our country and way of life. In the Bible, fasts were proclaimed in order to devote time to prayer and let God know that you were serious about what you were praying for. In Esther's time, a fast was called to save the Jewish people from Haman's treachery.

"Esther 4:13 Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews.

Esther 4:14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

Esther 4:15 Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer,

Esther 4:16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.

Esther 4:17 So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him. "

And again in Isaiah 58

"5 Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?

6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rearward.

9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;

10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day:

11 And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not."

If you could ping any list you have and email everyone you can, let's get God's attention on Monday.

Dennis

For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12

O Lord,
be thou our strength,
and in your mercy
uplift us,
empower us to do what you want us to do,
enkindle the fire of your love into our hearts,
that we will stand bravely,
living witnessess to your way.

O Lord,
be with those who this day
struggle against the present darkness,
against the culture of death,
against those who are foe to the family,
who would murder and enslave the unborn.

Open our eyes, O Lord,
that we understand the reality here,
and ask your blessing on those
who stand fast in the struggle,
such as President Bush.

If it is your will,
bless his efforts at re election.

Keep those who are struggling to work the election are safe.

Empower those who are working to save the family.

Embolden those who are fighting for the culture of life.

You are our strength, O Lord,
our rock and our salvation.
Who else should we turn to?

Amen.

An earnest "thank you" for the Scriptures. They will be a comfort throughout the day.

Am I the only one feeling anxious and tense, despite God's sovereign control, over what we must experience Tuesday?

God hears our prayers, and He sets up his rulers. It will ultimately be His decision who will be in office.
--Dan 2:20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: --Dan 2:21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

I too have felt the tenseness even though I also like you recognize that the Lord is in control.

I am reminded of what I read earlier in the following post from Pastor Doug Sheets in Colorado Springs:

"Up until now the Holy Spirit has not led me to issue a call to prayer for this year’s elections, as I did in 2000 (others have done so and many are praying). That began to change this morning as I sensed clearly that the warfare over this election went to another level—big time! As it was in 2000, it is an all-out war in the spirit realm for the soul of this nation, and I sense in my spirit that we have not yet broken through into victory. If we lose this war—and make no mistake, we can lose it if at any point we yield to apathy, overconfidence, weariness, or anything else that might cause us to not finish well—the results will be devastating.."

We still need to pray to break through into victory!

My wife got me to fast a few months ago. When my tummy would grumble it was a reminder to pray. I did have some juice to keep the energy up and quite the growling.

O Abba, Father
Tomorrow is a day
that people all over the world
are focusing on.

Bless the day O Lord,
and bless the voters going to the polls, and keep them safe.
Guard and watch over the poll workers.

We ask you, O Lord,
if it is your will,
to guide those who go to vote
to choose President Bush,
a man who loves you and loves your ways.

Bless his effort to be reelected,
and if it is what you wish,
watch over him as he steers this nation through four more years.

In the name of Jesus,
Amen.

I just wanted to ping all of you who responded to the call to fasting on Monday.

First, I want to say thank you for checking in, you were all an encouragement to me and to each other as we fasted and prayed for this election.

Secondly, I want to again publicly apologize to valleygal and Algone2001 for my terrible handling of some of the postings. I was rude and obnoxious and that was inexcusable. I did not intend to come off as arrogant, I honestly thought that I was in the right. I was not.

And lastly, this is evidence once again of the effectiveness of prayer when God is in it. From the replies of many of you, it seemed that the Holy Spirit was already moving on people to fast on Monday and some of you went even longer. So once again, Praise God!

Amen. It was plain to see His Holy hand in all of it, and to feel the strength of all the prayers that were pouring forth to Him. I am so thankful that He heard us, and that He had mercy on our country. He is so AWESOME!

Thanks the Lord!

There is a lesson in this for all of us:

James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Keep in mind, however, that the ONLY righteous man that ever lived was "Jesus Christ, the Righteous" and he "ever liveth to make intercession for us..." We must always remember that it is because He is righteous that any of our prayers are ever answered and so the credit ALWAYS goes to Him. Thank you Lord Jesus!

Your theology is more correct on this point than mine. Thank you for the correction.

A man or woman can only be seen as righteous through Jesus Christ alone, and never by him/herself.

Soli Deo Gloria!

Your welcome. It took me ten years to figure that out myself...I used to go around trying to find people who "appeared" more righteous than me to pray for me when I had an urgent request....LOL. Mind you, there is nothing wrong with asking others for prayer, but I was doing it with the wrong motives in mind.
