A reader writes to National Review's Clifford May to remind him that eight Marines were killed in Iraq in the last 48 hours and so were some Army soldiers.

There are Zarqawi and other terrorists, some related to Al Quaeda, and some just Party of Return Baathists, who are doing every thing they can to influence our elections and policy by killing our troops.

The Kerryites love to call Iraq a mess but they can never see how much bigger a mess it might have been if we had followed Kerry's advice, waited to 2006 or 2007 when Saddam was much stronger, and killed even more Americans from a more powerful base. If the democracies had confronted Hitler in 1937 before the Anschluss, we might have saved millions of lives.

First, let us pray for the repose of the souls of these brave Americans in our armed forces and pray that God will comfort their families. Let eternal rest in God's grace shine on their souls.

Second, when you think of the sacrifices these wonderful Americans make every day in Iraq or Afghanistan or anywhere else for us, for our freedom, and for the freedom of others, let that be your inspiration to go vote and drag anyone you can with you who supports American values of freedom and justice.

Its fun to gossip and talk about polls and the stupid media, but the stakes this year are really huge beyond just a spectator's horse race. I hate working at the polls but I will be there all day on Tuesday 20 yards outside the entrance passing out sample ballots and flyers and trying to be nice to neighbors I know might be there to make a big mistake. Just on the chance that a last-minute flyer might help tip someone to Bush. If I get one voter that way, it will be worth it. If you have just one hour, show up at the polls and help any Bush volunteer you see, bring them coffee or a sandwich, just keep them company and help them pass out stuff.

But whatever we do or however hard we might work, it is nothing compared with our military who are on the front lines right now. God bless them. We owe them our best efforts. If you never served in the military, here is your chance to serve a great cause of liberty right now between tonight and Tuesday night.

If they take down your signs, put up new ones right away. Make your own if the headquarters has no more. Try to persuade at least one neighbor tomorrow or Monday to vote for Bush if you think they are leaning the other way. You can make a difference if you try.

I am with ya brother I am scheduled to work the pols on Tuesday as a Republican Judge.

I already received a threat letter from the DemocRATS threatening me that voter intimidation is a crime. I was sure to write them a letter telling them that voter fraud is a crime and nobody and I mean nobody who is not registered and doesn't have proper I.D. will receive a ballot at my polling place without being contested!!!!

I remember in my 20s years ago I passed out GOP flyers at a train station west of Chicago. An older man with white hair walked up to me to volunteer to help and he did until the last commuter train going into the city. I later found out he was a survivor of the Bataan Death March in western Luzon during WW2. I never forgot that. If he could take time after all he had done for our country to help me, I should never hesitate to pitch in when I can.
