Godebert, many conservatives have issues with Bush; I certainly do. However, we have to look at the bigger picture. Bush's support for policies that are, typically, non-conservative, may disappoint us, but now is NOT the time to send a political message.
The stakes are too high in this election. There has not been an election in the past 100 or more years that had so much at stake. The very future of our Republic is on the line. Our future as the world's remaining superpower is on the line.
We can resume our opposition to Bush's support for non-conservative policies AFTER the election is over and he has secured a second term. But not now.
Remember, politics is a dirty business and, doubtless, Bush has done a lot of things in his role as a uniter - things that he may not particularly like - but are politically necessary for him to get the things he wanted to accomplish; tax cuts come to mind, among others.
If you are REALLY a conservative, put your pettiness aside and be a patriot - vote FOR Bush AND for the future of the United States. THAT'S what's on the table this time.
Anything else is a vote for the United Nations, al-Qaida, France, criminals, liars, the continued destruction of our moral fabric, the continued destruction of our school system, etc.
So, this is the time for you to decide what you really believe. Do you really believe in and love the United States and all of the advantages that you enjoy here? Or, do you want to see us join the mediocre, crumbling nations of the world such as France, Germany, Spain, etc. that have given into socialism, mediocre government run healthcare, high tax systems that punish the hard-working, dedicated and industrious among us?
What do you really believe?
Thanks for your impassioned appeal. I will take it under advisement.
Re your post #35, it is obvious that any candidate that Godebert votes for must be as pure as the driven snow. He does not permit any pimples on a candidate's record.
In reality, such a candidate cannot exist, so Godebert just has a field day with his grousing.
Very nicely put. I think many of us disagree with some of his policies, but 'tis better to disagree with some of Bush's policies, then have to endure 4 years of another piece of trash dishonoring the white house.
Yes, Bush said he would reinstate the AW ban. But the fact is that he didn't, because our Republican controlled Congress never sent the bill to him. So what does it matter? The sunset on the AWB went into effect, and our 2nd Amendment rights became a little stronger.
Bush signing the Mcain Feingold bill was part of political strategy. Had the Supremes actually done their job, that bill would have been ruled unconstitutional.
The bottom line is - you win some, you lose some. But with Kerry in office, we stand to lose a hell of a lot more. Now is the time to stand behind Bush. We can worry about the issues we care about after Tuesday.
