SHOULD WE BE PREPARING FOR THE WORST? [KJL] Talking to a GOPer pollster type this morning, he warns me, "i want to prepare you for a likely Bush loss." He's worried Ohio and Wisconsin are worse than we know because of the economy. And, generally--which is a point multiple people have consistently brought up-the numbers are just so much closer than they should be for an incumbent. (And yes, I know, we have to bear in mind the war, etc.)
I'm not trying to bum you out, to dull GOTV efforts, or anything else. I'm a) just relaying what I'm getting from smart people b) hoping it energizes. This can be won, so go win it and make sure, as the Hugh man says, it's not close, they can't cheat.
Zot!
Wonderful. The one day I feel upbeat, I get this.
And the economy in WI is good I thought.
For crying out loud, I am irritated for sure now.
Stuff like this just isn't helpful. What does KJL mean by "preparing"? Mentally? Emotionally? Give me a break.
I am sick of the Republican pundits hinting at doom and gloom in their misguided effort to "energize" Republican voters.
well i am now bummed
thanks
I actually think KLO shouldn't have reported this. It doesn't serve any purpose other than to deflate. I liked going to NRO for happy talk.
The bad economy is a media invention. Unemployment is lower than it was under Clinton. Inflation is lower than it was under Clinton. Household wealth is at an all time high. Productivity is at an all time high.
If Kerry is elected, it will not be because of the economy, but because of what the media has told people about the economy. But, that's how we got Clinton in the first place.
I'm worried about a Bush "loss" based on fraud with lessons the democrats learned in Florida.
Bad economy in Wisconsin, my a$$. We have 5.0% unemployment, trending downward.
Well, if Ohio and NH are lost (Bush only down one point this mroning in NH and rising), that means we have to make up 24. New Mexico (5), Hawaii (4), Iowa (7) give us 16. If we keep NH, we win.
I don't understand the comment about Wisconsin! The economy here is great -- unemployment is below the national average. If you look at areas outside of Madison or Milwaukee, they are trending conservative. It will be close... like last time but the GOTV efforts in this state are really strong!!
My only concern is voter fraud... students voting multiple times and homeless people being bribed with cigarettes just like in 2000.
I am for Bush in every way, but I do believe the ones responsible for his campaign have done a horrible job. Bush has been on the defensive the whole time. Not a good place to be. We should have put the Dems on the defensive and kept them there, as we had plenty of ammo to do it with.
"Worse than we know" is what's called a vibe or a hunch. Call me when he's got somethine we do know.
You don't have to make up NH with the extra apportionment. It's only OH, which could be replaced by PA or MI or NJ or WI/IA or a MN/IA combo or a bunch of little states including NM.
I know its tight in OH - and the latest poll I looked at showed that the Marriage Amendment was getting 59%. I am hoping that the #s for this are low and that an increase in the Marriage Amendment vote contributes to an increase in the Bush vote.
Methinks that Bush is doing better than we know right now, primarily because I don't think Kerry will pick up nearly the number of undecideds he needs to win.
Anyhow, we'll just have to get out and vote.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
Oh yea of little faith.
