I'm still trying to figure out why this case is special though. It's not as if women haven't been killed while pregnant before. Maybe just not at christmas? But Scott Peterson is as guilty as sin.

Any bastard who kills a cute, and apparently affectionate elf-like (5'1"-100lbs) wife, who carries his son, for some floozy manicurist, deserves to die in a greusome way. To bad we have "cruel and uniusual" punishment restrictions in this country!
Don't really know the reason why either, other than too many strange things Scott did, that drew the media onto him, and then became nationwide by way of his behavior while Laci was missing. Besides the other factors, Christmas, pregnant, a very beautiful young to be mom, and a skiddish husband ducking media... not to mention, fishing on Christmas Eve or Dec 24th, 2002.
