Latrell Sprewell says he'll ask to be traded if the Minnesota Timberwolves don't sign him to a contract extension by Wednesday night's opener. ''I think this thing is heading towards me leaving, personally,'' Sprewell told reporters after a practice this week. Earlier this preseason, Sprewell said he wanted a contract extension by the Wolves' opener, against the New York Knicks, or he would ask for a sign-and-trade deal or wait to become a free agent. Either way, Sprewell said he didn't want to negotiate during the season. But he took a tougher stance Sunday. Asked if he would play out the season and test the free-agent market, Sprewell said: ''Why would I want to help them win a title? They're not doing anything for me. I'm at risk. I have a lot of risk here. I got my family to feed.'' Sprewell is due to make $14.6 million this year. Sprewell, 34, described the team's latest offer, reported to be worth between $27 million and $30 million over three years, as ''insulting.''

Yet another reason as to why I do not attend any professional games.
Until Sprewell changes his name to Micheal Jordan or actually wins a Championship, I would tell him to get screwed.
How anybody can follow the NBA is beyond me...
Why anyone cares to is beyond me.
''Why would I want to help them win a title?"
Because that's what you're getting paid to do you talentless loser.
That is the funniest headline I've seen in a while.
Me, I think that, if I really scrimped and saved, I could feed my headline on $13, maybe even $12 million a year.
LOL!
Dan
Just how much can one family eat?
Check out NBA commissioner David Stern's campaign contributions:
"Commissioners: Go figure. USA WEDNESDAY found the NHL's Gary Bettman made no donations, while MLB's Bud Selig gave $5,750 split between Republicans and Democrats. The NFL's Paul Tagliabue also split his $47,000. But the $196,500 given by the NBA's David Stern doesn't just make him the biggest-spending commissioner. With $159,000 from Stern and his wife going to Democratic candidates and causes, they are the survey's second-biggest donors to that party trailing Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos and his wife, who gave a total of $340,700."

I used to LOVE professional basketball. But -- After Sprewell tried to kill his coach -TWICE- and received only a slap on the wrist from the NBA, I lost all respect for the entire operation. I will not watch a game that is full of thugs, rapists, murderers, and the like. That goes for the democratic game as well.
What are they eating? Cocaine and Hummers?
My grocery bill is only $700/month for a family of 6. We must not be eating right.
I used to watch a lot of basketball. I didn't watch more than 10 minutes of the NBA all season this past year.
Probably more like: "I've got a family to feed. I mean, who knows how many kids I've got out there!"
Sprewell = cancer
Thugball players ruined the NBA, IMO. I haven't had much interest since Jordan retired the 2nd time.
What's your family eating these days, Latrine (I mean, Latrell)? Beluga caviar? Chateaubriand? Gold bricks? Instead of bitching about how rotten you're being treated, how about working hard, living comfortably on a fraction of your inflated income, and GIVING SOMETHING BACK to your community?
You could be buying a load of books and computers for school kids in the inner city, but I guess that's too much to ask.
What it is: Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.
Why you do it: You live in possibly the most pampered, consumerist society since the Roman Empire.
Your punishment in Hell will be: You'll be boiled alive in oil. Bear in mind that it's the finest, most luxurious boiling oil that money can buy, but it's still boiling.
Associated symbols & suchlike: Greed is linked with the frog and the color yellow
Sprewell has always been a jerk of the highest order.
There really is no reason to watch the NBA since they certainly don't play basketball anymore.
Exactly. I use to be the biggest basketball fan, following every thing down to who was coming out of H.S. into college (remember those days). Then it turned into all about being a gangsta or thug. NBA got mixed in with the hip-hop lifestyle, and haven't watched since.
Plus the fact these guys have no talent. If I wanted to see games played in the 70 and 80 point range I would go watch the local high school. They come close to that with no shot clocks, and less game time.
One day these thugs are going to wake up to find that the NBA has been taken over by European players who actually know how to shoot the ball.
What's an NBA? Is it like that organization that used to play basketball?
I used to workout with Sprewell in the summers in Milwaukee Wisconsin at the local Brown Deer YMCA.
The guy has like 15 cars minimum and several yaughts--- he might not have enough cash to feed his kids after all the crap he buys
Why is there a thread on pro basketball? What a stupid enterprise, thoroughly bankrupt.
I have a fantasy NBA league at FoxSports. I've invited Freepers to join, but it appears there are no NBA fans left. The league is "Free Republic", and the password is "Freep". It's the free basic salary cap game.
I don't know how I could manage on as paltry a sum as 14.6 million, but I'd be willing to try!!!!!
It's a group who's all-stars are nearly as good as the Puerto Rican national team.
Nothing makes me sicker than a athlete who is under contract and doesn't want to fulfil it.
Perhaps Spree is a distant cousin of Elizabeth Edwards.
I have never watched a professional basketball game and I never will.
This guy is now and has always been a punk.
All the talent in the world can't make up for being a flawed human being.
It's not food that eating up the family budget. It's living a lifestyle that is above his income, gambling, hookers, drugs and all the lowlives that hang around mooching off of him. I stopped watching this crap after Jordan retired.
Sprewell doesn't have families, he's just got a lot of babymommas to support.
This will surely help his endorsement income. Not!
Follow Tampa Bay's model from the NFL. Deactivate the sucker. They would have more going for them than having that attitude in the locker room. They still have to pay him but they don't have to let him in their facilities.
