Shameless Vanity: Who is 'on deck' for 2008?
11-3-04 | myself

Posted on 11/03/2004 12:35:09 PM PST by JOAT

Conservatives need to start looking forward just 4 years and start thinking about who will run against Hillary in 2008.

Allowing that creature to win will undermine this nation worse than the 8 years she had puppeteering through Bubba.

Suggestions for a candidate/team?

Santorum is up in 06 not 08.

If Romney is not pro life, then there is no reason to support him over Giuliani.

When is Rendell up? What if Santorum took him on in 06 instead of running for Senate? Not THAT would be interesting.....

Richard Nixon.

How about George Allen of Virginia ? Solid conservative, pro-life, former Governor, good presence. Football credentials for the Bubba vote (grin)

I might be wrong, but I would watch Sen. Coleman of Minn.

I agree that Rudy will end up in the cabinet. I also agree that a lot of the country likes him, making him quite electable. However, first he must win the Republican nomination. I can't think of a single southern or western state won by Bush yesterday that would vote for a gun grabbing abortionist like Rudy to be the Party's nominee - to the contrary, he would attract and motivate the opposed to him to work and contribute to his defeat (among whom would be yours truly, 100% related to the gun issue).

Rudy is a very sincere, likable guy, a very capable administrator and very, very right on a few issues (mainly Homeland Security). He'd be good heading the DHS, but no more. He's to the left of the Rockefeller wing of the Party and, like Lieberman in the Democratic Party, he won't ever succeed in getting the nomination.

Um... did anyone mention Sean Hannity?

He might be willing to do it. Think of how many books he'd be able to sell.

I should have put Allen on the list. Too bad he's not from a true swing state. But in all respects, you're right. He would be a good candidate, many strengths and at least 6 incoming GOP senators are already gonna like him a whole lot!

Don't forget though that Phil Gramm had that job at NRSC in 1994 and he didn't even make it to the NH primary in 1996, so it's hardly a silver bullet.

Dangerous Democrats...

Don't forget Bill Richardson. Hispanic, governor of New Mexico which is split between Democrats and Republicans so he's shown he can appeal to both, former congressman and cabinet official. Team him up with someone like Evan Bayh of Indiana or, if they're feeling risky, Debbie Stabenow of Michigan and they might be hard to beat.

My two favorite possibilities are Rick Santorum and Judge Roy Moore of Alabama. I do concede that the liberal media will tear them both to shreds just like what happened with Alan Keyes. I know of a few feminazies that don't like Hillary but would consider voting for her only because she is a woman (barf). I like Elizabeth Dole better than Condi as Pres and although McCain is a bit too RINO for me, I think putting him on the ticket as VP could result in a landslide because of his crossover appeal.

This HAS been suggested and he might be strong. He's got the looks and that can't be underestimated. Like Santorum, Romney, and Giuliani, he brings a state into play. Unlike R & G, he is solidly pro life....Unlike Santorum, he has run something as a mayor (though I'm not srue that is enough...). His high profile victory of Mondale was huge.

Allen/Coleman....hmmmmm.....

I don't know what his personal feelings are regarding the 2A, but no one is elected in NY that is pro-gun, especially NYC.

Yeah, right, like any pro-gunner worse his or her salt would believe that a liberal NYC Republican is really pro-gun. I can see it now..."I was against guns for years when I was the unassailable head of the NYC Republican Party machine, before I went goose-hunting in this here camoflague outfit, and now I'm in favor of guns." If he tried anything like that, they'd be calling him RFK.

I was under the impression he was getting up there in years. I also think the reps will want to go with a "nice guy" . After the past 8 years of hate by the left, chances are the GOP will look for a squishy moderate to try to please everyone.

Rudy is not an abortionist, he's a hard*ss lawyer who broke up the mob in NYC. He started the broken windows campaign to clean up the city after Dinkins defined deviancy down. I don't think he is a gun-grabber. It was in context to NYC after the Dinkins term.

He is America's mayor. I think the next four years will let us take Rudy's measure.

What? Trying to see if we can beat Keyes' performance of losing by 42 points?

I will admit, though, that George Allen is VP timber for 2008, he is NOT top-of-the-ticket material. . .yet. That takes some time.

I can wait until 2016 for an Allen/George P. Bush ticket (evil grin).

Imagine the screams of the liberals: a THIRD GENERATION of the BUSH DYNASTY. . . (when nobody says a thing about the Kennedy Dynasty. . .)

How many more years can he get by on the "America's Mayor" bit? He'll have to do something over the course of the next four years or else he'll be ancient history.
