The whole point of dudespeak is to misspell as much as you can without the text becoming completely illegible. In spite of the seeming complete disregard for spelling and grammar, there is a definite "kosher" way to do it.
As for "pwned,":
Generally speaking the effect is lost when capitalized. In an arial style font, "pwned" looks like "owned" enough to qualify.
Dudespeak has degenerated much like English in the past few years, and as such many amateurs cross the line of elegance in their drive to be creative. /shrug

The 'p' is also right next to the 'o' on the keyboard, so when typing, especially fast, it becomes the 'default'...just like typing 'teh'...do it all the time myself...but its why my typing skills never get beyond 19 words per minute...I am too busy going back and correcting my spelling mistakes.
