Should dims "get" religion? Aside from the fact the statement itself betrays ignorance, "religion" is insufficient to get one elected. One must hold to the core values of conservative religion.

Whatever their motives, I think it is a good thing overall. Religious speech is the right of everyone. Motive can be judged and weighed by the people.

Oddly, this is the kind of question that only a liberal would pose. The author apparently believes the "religion" (and I guess he means Christianity) is some kind of monolithic edifice. Traditional Catholic, Disciple of Christ, Primitive Baptist, Confessional Lutheran - they're all the same!

If your religious values inform your decisions, it will show in the results. You can't just throw "religion" over big government or higher taxes like an old rug and expect conservatives to buy it. What a loon.

Ridiculous lawsuits like the one about the Pledge of Allegiance ("under God") and the decision forcing the judge down south to remove the 10 Commandments from his courtroom also made an impression on Christians that their religious freedom was being threatened.

I remember that Joe Lieberman said there was no reason that democrats could not get religous people to vote for them. I could think of hundreds of reasons otherwise, firt and foremost the left is not just agnostic, but openly hostile to religion.

I have heard democrats say this week they will "talk about national defense and values" but I can hear the parsing already - "talk" about issues, not actually do anything about it.

Most Democrats just don't get it. Some talk about "the religion thing", or "the values thing" as if these are like a job you take or a school you attend. Real religion becomes part of what you are. The Democrat party can't "get" religion any more than they can "get" patriotism. They don't seem to truly believe in anything! Like so many other deeply held conservative values, to the liberal Democrat these are just hats you wear depending on the occasion.

Get religion? Liberal democrats just don't and won't.
