PARIS, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- French doctors were reportedly using various medical machines to keep Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat alive Saturday until a burial site could be found.
Arafat's family wants a Jerusalem burial, but Israel has refused, CNN reported.
"Jerusalem is the city where Jewish kings are buried, and not Arab terrorists," said Israeli Justice Minister Yosef Lapid.
Palestinian officials denied Arafat was being kept alive so his family and officials from Egypt, France and Israel could settle funeral and burial arrangements, but U.S. officials, being given regular confidential briefings by Paris, told CNN Arafat would be taken off life-support systems once a burial site was agreed upon.
In accord with Islamic custom, Arafat's followers and family want his body buried within 24 hours of his death and so must settle such details before the life-support is withdrawn.
