In the all the squabbling this week, the best retort was, "Oh yeah? If you're so smart, why aren't you in power?"
The screams of pain sweeping through the intellectual deserts of the left like a flash flood show that the election of 2004 wasn't about a stolen election. It was about a stolen world.
The outrage of those undone by the democratic process they adored at noon on the 2nd, and loathed at noon of the 3rd, wasn't about the idea that Bush was selected, not elected in 2002 , but that he was elected then as he was now by the wrong people, people who were -- all the pundits of the Liberal/Left agree -- "not our sort" therefore "not real people at all."
I've written elsewhere that one of the things you can't say about the Terrorist War is that it is a war between two religions. The same with the culture war of the Liberal/Left. It too is a war of TWO religions.
What we have is a war of two religions in which only one side is designated as a religion -- the Right. "The Right" is always code for "The Religious Right," which is, in turn code for "Christianity." This is sometimes, by those ready to push the party line, modified for form's sake into "Christian Fundamentalism." But realistic observers of this game are not fooled and know it to be the same sort of bearded shorthand by which "Islamic Fundamentalism" is used to disguise Islam, pure and simple.
