Disillusioned Yanks eye NZ (No, US liberals, don't come here - go to Canada or France please)

Inquiries from Americans wanting to move to New Zealand have "exploded" since George W Bush was re-elected president.

The Immigration Service's website had 10,300 hits from the United States the day after the election. Usually it gets 2500 hits a day.

And the phones of its US marketing directors in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, have been ringing nonstop since the election.

Marketing director Don Badman said there had been up to 300 telephone calls and emails a day.

"We've been doing this for 11 months and it's been building up to about six to eight calls a day, but from Thursday it's exploded. It really started picking up from 11pm the night of the election."

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that many Americans were inquiring about moving to New Zealand, Australia and Canada as a result of the election.

A Canadian website is reaching out to help weary liberal Americans, asking Canadians to marry someone from south of the border.

"Open your heart and your home. Marry an American. Legions of Canadians have already pledged to sacrifice their singlehood to save our southern neighbours from four more years of cowboy conservatism," jokes the site, set up by a Toronto humour magazine.

To convince Americans to come on up, the site mentions that Canada is a liberal utopia with universal health care and, in some provinces, gay marriage.

"We envision a movement where everyone wins: Freedom of expression and a politically convenient marriage with love and igloos for all."

Wow, that must be an old photo. I didn't even recognize her. Don't have time to dig up a shot of her from her GAC hosting gig right now...

Don't they know about Canada's compulsory 5 year residency in the tundra for new immigrants before citizenship is granted and freedom of movement allowed?

Hey, maybe we can trade out American liberals for Conservatives from CA, NZ and Oz!

We get rid of liberals, and increase our Conservative base, sweet deal!

It used to be 3 years for us (at least it was for me), but the Labour government is now changing the rules to match yours. So it should be the same down here by the time they reach here...

Well, New Zealand obviously has its workforce structure (every country has one). Those moving there will have to fit in, unless they are moving with their money and live off it. Given that the whining lefties are mostly in antillectual professions, the question becomes: how many of their kind and ilk could be ever accommodated in a small country like NZ [if it ever wishes to take them, of course]?
I do not have any data, but my guess would be : not many.

And if we're lucky, it will sink again. Since the libs couln't possibly concieve of any such disaster befalling them, there will be no survivors.

No problem! There are liberty-lovers in every country (though some may have less than others)... seems to me, though, there must be a nice little island somewhere where the dissatisfied emigrating libs can't cause too much harm.

I would hate to think of New Zealand being ruined by the American Fifth Column. That's what has apparently happened to Canada since American draft-dodgers went there during the Vietnam War. Lefites only thought of New Zealand because the movie Lord of the Rings was shot there.

Let's not wish our riff-raff on New Zealand. Being close to Australia, it may be the FReeper's best friend on the globe.

Loonie lefty's will be awful disapointed when the liberals in canada get voted out, and it could happen at any time.

Any American liberals who do manage to get immigration status also have to post a 15,000 bond. Plus have their own health insurance. No felons allowed, so that leaves out most lefties.
HAHAHA! I get a good laugh from this lefty panic. Mexico is their only choice.

The article didn't go into much detail about NZ immigration laws; I was wondering, just how easy is it for a Yank to emigrate to NZ? I wouldn't think they'd be given any sort of refugee status that would move them to the front of line... What are the labor laws like? How easy is it for a foreigner to find work? Unless these spoiled whiners have sought after skills, I don't think they'd much like taking the typical immigrant route of starting at the very bottom. I suspect 99.9% of these crybabies will just stay home and continue piss and moan...

To be able to migrate to NZ all applicants (heads of family if application includes spouse and children) need to pass an English test caled IELTS with 6.5 out of 9. That's equivalent to passing first year university/college writing class and high school English with a B+. Given our far-left politicians (despite having very advanced degrees and reputed to be the highest qualified group of politicians) fail high school English I guess not many American libs will make it either. ;-)

It is tough:

1) You need to get an English language test called IELTS and pass with scores ike 6.5 out of 9. This is equivalent to getting B+ in high school final year's English or first year university/college writing class.

2) There is no help from government in finding work. And if you speak with too thick American accent (rolling r's) Kiwis won't welcome you to work.

3) They are planning to require you to live here for at least 5 years before citizenship is granted.
