Distraught over the re-election of President George W. Bush, a Georgia man traveled to New York City, went to Ground Zero and killed himself with a shotgun blast, police said yesterday.

The suicide victim, Andrew Veal, 25, was discovered just before 8 a.m. yesterday when a worker for the Millennium Hotel looking at Ground Zero from an upper floor saw a man lying atop the concrete structure through which the 1 and 9 subway lines run.

The worker, thinking the man was sleeping, alerted colleagues and the Port Authority police were notified.

But when they got to Veal's body, they realized he had killed himself with a shot to the head from a .12-gauge shotgun.

No suicide note was found, but according to a Port Authority police source, family members said Veal, a registered Democrat, was despondent over Bush's defeat of Sen. John Kerry. A second source said Veal, who lived in Athens, Ga., and worked for the University of Georgia, was also adamantly opposed to the war in Iraq.

More than three years after the Sept. 11 terror attacks, Ground Zero remains a top tourist attraction, the site rife with symbolism.

Visitors there yesterday reacted in different ways to news of Veal's suicide. Bobbie Jensen, 54, a Republican from Phoenix, said that while she understood how Bush's victory disturbed those...

This is what it has come to...the MSM and the liberals in hollywood have professed this hatred of Bush to these impressionable kids - said things like killing themselves, leaving the country, etc. without the intent to do it.

Hey Michael Moore, you like to say that Bush has blood on his hands, well so do you. Your lies and your constant drumbeat drama caused this kid to lose sight of reality. Your lack of values and morality has lead to the death of a brain washed child...when you go to sleep tonight, picture his face. Because you killed this kid. Period.

I feel sorry for his family.

But for this guy to stain the hollowed ground where 3,000 people were killed with his blood, well, I'm sure Mohammed Atta is giving him the tour of his new digs.

Sad story. I was just thinking what I would do if Kerry had won...

Well, get up out of bed the next day and go to work and make the best out of life. What else?

We survived 8 years of Clinton, after all.

Sames here. Still, I don't see how killing one self makes the statement one may think is being made by doing such a thing. May God bless this lost soul.

With democratic campaign slogans such as Vote or Die... Kerry's You will be Drafted if Bush is elected, and other gloom and doom prophecies, if anyone was to blame other than himself or his mental state it would be the Dims.

Where can I buy a .12 (that's point 12) gauge shotgun?

Probably at a salvage sale from the USS Iowa. Remember, with shotguns the smaller the number, the bigger the bore.

I guess you could say that in his case, at least, it was the most important election of his lifetime.

It's sad. It highlights the difference between humanism and Christianity.

When the exit polls were coming in and I was at work, I felt so depressed. I went into a little-used stairwell and started to weep and pray. God comforted me with the fact that He was in control of the final outcome and that everything happened for a purpose.

This poor soul believed that everything was determined by human will and human effort and that there is no guarantee of final victory for good v. evil.

This poor man was terribly deceived. Prayers for his family.
