As the ridiculous back-room negotiations about the new Commission go on and the members of the European Parliament display their petulance, the Bruges Group welcomes the display of true democracy and constitutionalism of the United States.
It is worth noting that while turn-out for elections across the European Union has been going down as true power has moved to the unelected and unaccountable Brussels machinery, the 2004 elections in the United States saw the highest turn-out for many decades. It is clear that the American people cherish their democratic institutions and, feeling that they are under attack from terrorists and from transnational organizations, are determined to support them.
President Bushs victory shows also that attempted interventions by trans-national oligarchies, NGOs and self-appointed guardians of international politics, who look to the European Union as the political expression of their favoured ideology, is not seen as acceptable by people who are participating in a true democratic contest.
The Bruges Group looks forward to a time when the people of the United Kingdom and other European states will also be participating in real elections with legislators being genuinely accountable to the people of their countries.
The Bruges Group intends to fight to achieve that state of affairs.
The Bruges group is a British conservative anti-federalist association. The name is taken from a speech given by Mrs Thatcher in Bruges, Belgium, where she took a clear stand against the federlist European approach, and in defence of the age old freedoms of Britain.
The Rt Hon. the Baroness Thatcher LG, OM, FRS is honorary president of the Bruges group.
"The Bruges Group looks forward to a time when the people of the United Kingdom and other European states will also be participating in real elections with legislators being genuinely accountable to the people of their countries. "
mondonico looks forward to that time too.
I know their heart is in the right place, still.
Great group, great post. I wish them well!
Great post!
Thanks
