WHEN THE H*LL WILL WE DEFUND NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO?
KPFK | 11-7-04 | dfu

Posted on 11/07/2004 3:01:13 PM PST by doug from upland

While doing some painting today, I wanted to listen to some talk radio. Unfortunately, Sunday is not a good day for talk radio. The only thing I found on was . . . . . KPFK -- public radio.

I listened to "Counterspin" and "Spotlight Africa." I was in the vomitorium.

I hadn't listened for awhile. These people are nuts. I wanted to throw my radio.

The anti-American and anti-conservative and anti-Bush crap that they are putting out on the air is overwhelming and sickening. Because I believe in free speech, I don't advocate that we shut them up. But I don't want to pay for it. Let them compete in the arena of ideas as we do.

One show was attacking our election. Of course, we cheated. Both Americans and foreigners are claiming that. One foreign "expert" said that our election would not even pass the test in Africa. Who in the hell do they think they are to tell us about how to run an election. For well over 200 years, we have had peaceful elections.

Our war is racism. Blah blah blah. With Bush in charge, it is like they are on the plantation again. Blah blah blah. It was another stolen election. Blah blah blah.

A caller from San Bernardino said that the African nations should withhold their oil from us. He wants demonstrations in the street and strikes. He does not want to accept this election.

When they are finished in Fallujah, I want the Marines to prepare a siege on KPFK. I don't want to pay for this any longer!

PBS and their baby NPR are radical leftists who should NOT be supported by any government funding. They should lost their tax exempt status since they sell many of their products at huge profits. I know of nothing that I'd let children watch / listen to; most is lying garbage or sappy (Barny) and boring.

Rather than take them down, ask for parity.

We want 24/7 FM stations in every market -- on the taxpayers dime.

Rush and his conservative friends will have jobs -- paid for by all taxpayers - including liberals.

That'll stop 'em -- being "fair" isn't part of who they are...

The real trick to defunding NPR is to remove its tax exempt status. c(3) organizations can usually only give money to other c(3)'s. It's the foundations & trusts & corporate donations that make NPR happen. Take away their tax exempt status and Pew, Rockefellar, Ford, and the other commie trusts and foundations can't give them any money. That won't stop Bill Moyers from funneling what money they do get into his own production companies, but it will put a major dent in their operations. Motherof 3 is correct when she points out that corporations are getting what amounts to a discount on their advertising. NPR is essentially commercial radio at this point although they bill themselves as an "educational foundation." Alleged non-profits are almost always behind socialist operations whether for propaganda or envirowhackos or whatever. The John T., and Catherine R. Afront Foundation operates tax free because it's a non-profit foundation. They and others like the Let'em Eat Cake Foundation funnel that tax free money into a "non-profit" like NPR, a large chunk of which gets funnelled into maggots like Bill Moyers pocket because he owns the production company that produces his shows. Not exactly "non-profit" if you ask me. Lose their tax exempt status and a lot of that "non-profit" money goes away. Much more than the 10% they get directly from tax payers.

I agree that africa oil is no answer for us.

But Anwar is only a very brief temporary answer.

The best course for now is new coal liquefaction technology. America would have to double its coal production each year, but we have enough for hundreds of years of energy at today's level of use. (During which time we can figure out something else to use. Also, during which time we are spending that "dollar per barrel" cost here at home instead of in the kingdoms of the "religion of peace.")

Good post, agitator. NPR is welcome to get funding any way it can, but you are right, it is a commercial enterprise, not a public service. As an aside, was it not Bill Moyers who suggested that Republicans might mount a coup if we didn't win? Talk about the loony left.

If we hold all the "conservative Republicans" accountable for the way they spend our tax dollars and let them know it is past time to unplug NPR and PBS from federal funds, we can get it done.

And they do provide a public service. They inform us of the thinking and (by checking donor lists) intelligence on our enemies.

Not while George Bush is president. He will never move to attack the liberals where they live. You know, the "new tone" and all that. The President means what he says. Unfortunately, in this area I don't like what he says.

NPR now longer needs taxpayer funding.

When Joan Kroc (Ray Kroc's widow) passed away in 2003, she left $200 million dollars to NPR.

Subsequent to this bequest, any pleas for taxpayer funding are disingenuous and fraudulent.

Let me restate that ...NPR should have never received public funding, but in light of Joan Kroc's bequest there is no reason not to cut them off immediately.

In answer to your headline, "When will we defund...."

My answer would be, "IMMEDIATELY".

But it's up to our Republican led House and Senate to do so.

Shouting into the wind accomplishes nothing.

Never.

The institution is too well defended and the cost of the battle has been determined to be politically too expensive.

Years back, Pacifica stations were very proud of the fact that they took no corporate money and no government money. I believe that's changed. I'm almost positive that they get federal money. It has to stop.

In New York, the WBAI (We Beg At Intervals) FM frequency was appraised at $180 million. The Pacifica foundation, which has a fiduciary responsibility, considered selling the station. There was a revolt of freeloaders, misfits and losers who have now taken over the station.

It's painful to listen to them, unless (like me) you revel in the misery of these lunkheads.

Doug , I had a similar experience on Saturday. I was visiting family in Eastern Ohio and my lib, hippy little brother asked me to move his vehicle.
I was subjected to about sixty seconds of commies whining and screaming about the election.
One guy was going so far as to call any church leader who influenced his congregation to vote for Bush , blasphemous.
I didn't listen long enough to determine if they spoke of the democrats campaigning in black churches but I'm guessing they didn't.
