Walked down the driveway [1/4 mile] and it is pretty awesome. Never seen them before. I'd encourage folks to go check'em out.

I'm sure Bush's rejection of the Kyoto Treaty is someone responsible for this.

Nice pic; about a year old and looks like high mountain land.

Unusually late in the year for the lights. The latest I've ever seen them was Columbus Day.

The lights are out in Western Montana. Impressive. Another plus for moving out of Caleefornia.

Lucky you. I want to see it too. In 1989, aurora borealis could be seen far south as Central America.

It's been visible in Colorado for more than three hours, now. I posted a thread about it
here.

A clear night spectacle here in NE Illinois too. I figured it was a Bears win celebration.

"Unusually late in the year for the lights. The latest I've ever seen them was Columbus Day."
They don't entirely depend on time of the year, but tend to peak in Autumn and Spring. They are due to the Solar wind knocking loose charged particles that are captured in the Earth's magnetic field. The Spring and Autumn peaks are not entirely understood but may be due to an interaction of the magnetic fields of the Sun and Earth at certain times of the year.

Dude...you do not have a different sky.
I would think that if they're down here, they're up there. Do you live near a populated area? Cloud cover?
