Would stopping Specter make it more or less likely that he would vote for Bush nominees to move from the committee to the floor?
Would stopping Specter make it more or less likely that Specter would vote to end filibusters on the floor?

Will stopping Specter make it more or less likely that the boundless slaughter of American children will end?
Will kicking Specter out of the GOP make it more or less likely that the Democrats will be able to manipulate the GOP with inside info?

The reality is that Specter has supported all of Bush's nominees the last four years. Yes, he killed us on Bork, but he has pledged to give all of Bush's nominess an up or down vote... What else do we want?

To hell with specter. Boot him out and be done with it. He's a backstabbing little prick.

Is there any real chance that he will get kicked out of the GOP? As for the original question, as chairman he would have far more influence than as a member. Sure, it's not a perfect solution, but it helps.

Specter has already decided that he is not going to run for reelection in 6 years. He is going to take his million dollar pension and Jimmy Carter us for the rest of his life.
The only leverage we have now is that he wants this chairmanship. Once this appointment is made fuggetabotit.

Will letting Specter assume the position that he feels is his by right, insure that he won't block any nominee that he feels is in his words an "extreme conservative?"

If one is Conservative, and want to give Specter a chance, than bend over, because you deserve it.

I predict the GOP members of the judiciary committee will vote Specter in. He knows they'll be watching him like a hawk, and can kick him out of the job at any time.

Does appeasing RINOs make it more or less likely that conservatism will be advanced?

Unless we want more justices on the Supreme Court that take a decisively left turn, such as Justice Souter, then we should be doing every thing we can to stop Specter from taking over the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Can they really give him the boot after he's been voted chairman and if so how difficult would it be?

The answer to the first question is that it is far more likely conservative, strict constitutionalist, pro-life nominees will move from committee to the floor if Specter is denied the chairmanship.
My gut feeling is that Specter, now that he doesn't face reelection for another six years, will support a filibuster by Democrats if necessary regardless of whether he is headiing the Judiciary committee. Hewitt seems to forget this IS what the guy campaigned on -- keeping Roe intact.

My sentiments, exactly. Specter's repayment of the President's primary election "stumping" has been less than gracious, and less than grateful. Specter seems almost to act as if he's entitled to every position of power he gets.
Given the rather clear pro-life mandate that the President now holds, why on EARTH would anyone want to give Specter the reins to the judiciary? If Specter reneged on his promises, there's NO WAY to keep him accountable! What would we do? Impeach him for the crime of "disappointing us"? Try to recall him in a state which doesn't have recall elections? Threaten not to give him a raise? Keep him away from the cherished "basketweaving appropriations committee?"
Sending a known loose cannon into one of the most critical fronts in the war against the culture of death... is not the most intelligent thing we could do, IMHO.
