GOOD NEWS: Judiciary Committee Members Choose Chair By Secret Ballot
GrassrootsPA ^ | 11/9/04 | GrassrootsPA

Reuters:

The Senate is expected to pick a chairman next week. First, the Republican members of the committee must nominate the chairman by secret ballot. Then, according to party rules, another secret ballot vote is taken by all Senate Republicans.

If they reject the committee's recommendation, the matter is sent back to committee with instructions for it to nominate someone else.

PLEASE call these members below and ask them to support ANYONE but Specter!

Senator Orrin Hatch 202-224-5251

Senator Charles Grassley 202-224-3744

Senator Jon Kyl 202-224-4521

Senator Mike DeWine 202-224-2315

Senator Jeff Sessions 202-224-4124

Senator Lindsey Graham 202-224-5972

Senator Larry Craig 202-224-2752

Senator Saxby Chambliss 202-224-3521

Senator John Cornyn 202-224-2934

Bork him ....... under ancient Scottish Law.

. there are so many reasons this waste of skin should not be given the chairmanship ........ that he chose to evoke Ancient Scottish law to rationalize/weasel away his Constitutional responsibility is reason enough.

Give him the Magic Bullet

Not quite correct. The vote of the committee members is an open ballot. The vote by the entire GOP caucus is a secret ballot.

Sen. Lott went down for a much less reprehensible instance of foot in mouth disease than Sen. Specter evidenced a few days ago.

During the terrible divisive fights coming up, I definitely don't want Sen. Specter to be our spokesman for the Republican party concerning judiciary nominations.

Tried yesterday - not one fax went through -I'm sure too busy ! So, I faxed again this morning (7 a.m.) and they went through. This was my letter:

After working so hard to return George W. Bush to office along with the agenda he campaigned on, this concerned Republican is requesting that Arlen Spector not be given the chairmanship of the Judicial committee.

We asked the American people to not judge John Kerry on his "promises" but rather on his record.

We ask you and other Senators to not make this decision on Spector's promises to be fair but rather on his "BORK-Y" record !!

Thank you - please do not let us down.

I don't support him because I think he is wishy-washy and has allowed himself to be pushed around, and does not fight for the President's nominations.

But MY MOST IMPORTANT REASON for not supporting him is that SPECTER SUPPORTS SUBJECTING US TROOPS TO THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We cannot allow people like this to have a hand on the controls.

I agree. He quit the leadership post for the good of the party. Arlen Spector should do the same, but everyone knows he won't. He will have to be voted out.

With a secret ballot, I wouldn't be surprised if Specter lost just two or three votes. These senators put institutional conservatism far ahead of political conservatism.

I'm glad to hear you're wrong - that it's NOT a secret ballot.

I want to KNOW how my senator, John Cornyn, votes.
And I want him to know that I know.
