n a case eerily similar to a notorious Washington state prosecution where an older woman had sex and children with a teen boy, a Spring Lake woman has been charged with three counts of rape for having sex with a 14-year-old boy.
Authorities believe Stephanie Elizabeth Bissell, 34, is pregnant with the boy's child.
Bissell, 214 N. Park, was arraigned Friday in Ottawa County's 58th District Court on three charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, all involving the same 14-year-old boy. Bissell demanded a preliminary examination and bond was set at $3,000.
If convicted, Bissell faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
As part of her posting bond, Bissell was ordered by District Judge Richard Kloote to notify the court 24 hours in advance if she is planning to have an abortion.
Assistant Prosecutor Greg Babbitt said this morning the bond condition requiring 24 hours notice prior to a possible abortion was designed to preserve evidence. Babbitt said he has information the woman -- who court officials said was estranged from her husband and has a 15-year-old daughter -- is pregnant, possibly by the boy.
"Our concern is to prevent a loss of evidence," he said. "No one has the right to destroy evidence."
Ottawa County Sheriff's deputies were alerted to the case by the alleged victim's parents.
While he said he could not go into details, Babbitt said the defendant did not hold an authority position over the alleged victim, such as being a teacher. Babbitt said the prosecution is pressing third-degree criminal sexual conduct charges, instead of first-degree CSC, because there is no evidence of physical injuries to the victim.
Babbitt acknowledged that cases like this are rare in West Michigan. "It is very unusual for us," he said.
Bissell did post 10 percent of the bond amount and was released. A pre-preliminary examination was set for Tuesday.
The case bears similarities to one in Washington state seven years ago that gained national notoriety. In 1997, 34-year-old elementary school teacher Mary Kay LeTourneau was charged with having sex with a 13-year-old student, Vili Fualaau.
When LeTourneau was arrested, she was already pregnant with Fualaau's daughter. She was sentenced to six months in jail for second-degree child rape and ordered to stay away from him.
A month after LeTourneau got out of jail, she was caught having sex with Fualaau in her car. She was sent to prison and gave birth to Fualaau's second daughter behind bars.
She was released in August and a judge lifted an order barring LeTourneau from contacting Fualaau, now 21. LeTourneau said on Larry King's television show in October the two are now engaged to be married.
The two daughters, now 6 and 7, have been raised by Fualaau's mother.

At some level, I suspect these women are still psychologically teenagers themselves. A boy that age may seem non-threatening. Or maybe it's a power thing.
Is a GH woman the same thing as a Spring Lake woman? And if so, my original question applies, what is a GH woman. And how well does a GH woman relate to a Piltdown man? Or does she prefer a Harvard man? And for that matter would a Harvard man prefer a Spring Lake woman? And would a Harvard man know that a Spring Lake woman is the same thing as a GH woman? If, in fact, they are the same thing.
You see? These are all questions I feel need to be answered. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?....
Hey now. We should be sensitive to their differences. Embrace the diversity that trans-gender intimate relationships can bring to our stifled, restrictive society. After all, these women were born that way! We should be open to including all people, regardless of their sexuality! (Cough... gag)

That LaTourneau woman has had control over that boy from
the time he was 12 yrs. old. I would doubt he knows which
end is up at this point. She will control him into
marriage, and I suppose when he gets too old, watch your
kids. This woman (and women like them) will be dangerous
to kids until they get so shriveled up and old even the
little boys will run from them in fear.

Same here. I tend to like them older, too (DH is 12 years older than me and looks like Grizzly Adams. Yummmm :lol:).

WTF.... what's the deal, this woman can't find herself a piece-of-a$$ with a legal age adult male? I mean really, if you go for 'a younger man', at least find one of legal age.... sheesh!
True. However, this is not pedophilia as this 14 year-old boy is almost definitely sexually mature. Pedophiles are interested in the sexually immature only. There was an earlier (today) story of a 30 something woman being sexually involved with an 8 year old boy. That is pedophilia.
My husband is also 12 years older than me. The odd things is, I would have been 6 when he graduated from high school. We didn't meet until I was in my early 20s.
A friend's brother was seduced by a nun(in her early thirties) in high school. He later lived with her for several years. He was messed up but has mostly straighteout now.
I am not sure if I am more offended by referring to an unborn baby as fetal tissue or evidence.
Rapists are rapists, even if they are female.

If you saw the Larry King interview with Mary LaTourneau, she seemed naive or innocent depending on your viewpoint if not too bright.
The woman's mother implied that her daughter has a history of mental illness.
This isn't a NAMBLA story. This is a sad story for everyone involved.
It is becoming more and more clear that these predator women are looking for very young sperm donors.

A GH woman is a Grand Haven woman. Spring Lake is right next door to Grand Haven.
Whatever happened to the Florida teacher/newlywed case this past summer The one who had sex multile time with a student? Is the court case still pending? Plea bargained? Did her husband divorce her?
It is a soon to be NAWBLA story.... Is this new, or has it been occuring in plain sight for years? I wonder.......
To make it more relevant, you should ask to hear only from those FReepers who were 14 years old at the time that this happened in their lives, and the older woman was somebody who they most likely looked upon as an authority figure and a trustworthy individual.
