My bride and I decided 2 years ago to not get satellite TV and we haven't regretted it for a moment!

We get the local CBC repeater many miles away with an old-fashioned pole antenna. It's a tad snowy, but that's Canada for you. Besides, with no NHL hockey, there's no real reason to watch TV at all!

Since giving up cable a few years ago, I can barely abide 5 minutes of that all-hype 24/7 tripe - Fox, CNN, whatever.

My point was that it wasn't newsworthy. At least not worthy of such fanfare from Fox. Several posts up I made a comment about the use of their ALERTS and that for those of us watching for developments in Fallujah and have friends in that area, our hearts skip a beat expecting to hear of some sort of ambush or massive troop casualities. I know it is important to pray for the best, but this is a dangerous undertaking by our troops.

There will be no mistrial.

I hope you are right; but what leads you to this conclusion?

California has really gimmicked the jury system -- their trials are jokes. Evidence rules that blind and confuse, stages of trial that prevent a Jury from taking full account of the dread weight of their duty, and drawing a set card from the bottom of the deck like this.

The outcome is per script.

I think Peterson did the horrible deed too -- but no fair accord to Justice can be found in a California trial.

My point is that there are lots of threads that "AREN'T NEWSWORTHY" as you state ... like live threads on the Super Bowl, the play offs, the World Series ... the Red Soxs. Heck, we even had a thread today on super-gluing a condom to some guy's penis.

But we don't see you there complaining and carrying on about any of it being not newsworthy.

Something tells me you are selective in your distain for threads.

Au contrair. I served last November. A slam dunker if they ever thought.. after all, lib CA jurors are suckers to sow moths in pockets where change used to jingle. Hehehehe....... The lawyer asked us to 'pay attention the details', and details we so watched. While one lawyer wanted to draw your eye to what he wanted you to see, the same document revealed the full story... it was a delight to rip apart a gold-diggers greedy dream. All that served learned that the lawyers expected a 2 hour deliberation, but 3 1/2 days later....... we walked out confident in our decision, nearly hung once... but we worked through it and no one got hurt.. Justice was served.. even in CA. :)

Not threads... news stories. I don't particularly care about threads and their topics. People can post whatever they want. My disdain was not for talking about the Peterson case on FR, but about Fox News treating any development with the same effect that a terror attack would have.

Well, that's good to hear from direct account.

I like a jury that has unrestricted access to all evidence, and unfiltered by the Judge. I like that the jury went and checked out the boat for themselves. And if it is that in CA the law holds that personal research is grounds for a mistrial well -- dang that rule.

What makes you think that Fox treats both subjects with equal gravity ... any more that FR? Just because you see a commercial on TV delivered with gusto does not mean it warrents top billing.

What is odd, is that perhaps the jury ALSO considered that from a 90 lb bag of cement, 4 10 lb anchors, might've left a 50lb bag used as a counterwieght in the boat. And, then simply sprinkled in the water after the dirty deed was done.

I still think there will be a mistrial. Sad, very very sad, for Laci's family. But, rather that than an acquittal. I've had this figured out for a long time, and the prosecutions closing argument was right on. They should've stressed that theory from the beginning.. but hey, I'm an armchair juror.. Scott is guilty as sin.

The point of starting this thread was to demonstrate the utter absurdity of what the media thinks is National News, worth using big splashes of FOX NEWS ALERT, etc. You see the ALERT, your ears perk up, you look at the TV, and it's just more junk from the Peterson trial. In this era of terror attacks, we are helplessly drawn to anything we see as breaking news.

The Red Sox WIN! Breaking news!

BTW, all the Peterson case stories are compiled on ONE thread. Why did you start a new one?

Not the commercial, the middle of news (BONG!) FOX NEWS ALERT! and then stuff about the Peterson case. So, I put up a thread to mock what Fox was doing. I probably should have titled it with a disclaimer though. My bad. I do not start threads often.

Yeah, you should have. All the Peterson threads are orchestrated by Running Bear. She makes sure they are all on one thread. Instead you have drawn attention to the trial and 100s of new posts about it have transpired.

BTW, everyday there is some sourpuss who can't stand that anyone cares about a criminal case ... they gripe and gripe and gripe. You were the one today.
