Conspiracy Theories Abound After Bush Victory (Jennings & ABC News Debunk Theory and DUmmies)
ABC News ^ | Nov. 9, 2004 | Jake Tapper and Avery Miller

There were minor voting irregularities on Election Day — long lines, voting machine breakdowns, shortages of provisional ballots — but some people are now leveling charges of voter fraud.

Doug Chapin, a nonpartisan election analyst, finds the claims to be baseless. "There were no problems that would lead me to believe that there were stolen elections or widespread fraud," he said.

"There was no overwhelming reason to cast doubt on the outcome of this election," seconded Democratic strategist Donna Brazile, the campaign manager for Al Gore's 2000 campaign. "George Bush got more votes this time."

Nevertheless, many people have devised various theories, including stories of voters in largely Democratic counties in Florida whose votes were changed for Bush, phantom voters in Ohio, and exit polls showing John Kerry in the lead that were truer than the final tally. Off the record, many Democratic strategists dismiss such allegations, but they also know such resentment can be channeled for political use in the future.

And that is more important to them than the truth.

The MSM now debunking anti-Bush conspiracies?!?! My God, what is this world coming to? Up is down, wrong is right. Sigh.

You mean up is up, wrong is wrong.

It's been the other way for so long, though, that I can understand your confusion.

Me thinks Brazile knows which side an investigation would show was fraudulent!

In regard to Lafayette County, one of the counties in question, it is true that there are far more registered Democrats in that county than Republicans (3,570 to 570, respectively), and that the county elected Bush in this year's election, but the county elected Bush in the last election, too.

And for Bush Sr. and for Bob Dole...

I was intially shocked to read this..

Off the record, many Democratic strategists dismiss such allegations, but they also know such resentment can be channeled for political use in the future.

Then I thought about it and came to one of two (or both) conclusions. A) The mask of objectivity is gone so why deny it? B) The saner elements of the party want to distance their party from the Al Gore route that destroyed his credibility and left a taint on the Dems. This, I'm sure, is why Kerry "voluntarily" conceded the race.

Both Carville and Brazille are trying to keep the Democrats from melting down from the heat of their hate and bitterness.

Oddly enough they seem to be the "voice of reason" within their party. The times are strange indeed.

Indeed.

A serious look at voter fraud would definitely leave more egg on DemonCRAP faces than ours. The last thing Brazile wants is an impartial investigation of that.

They are not at ALL doing that. What they are doing is twofold.

First, they are giving those theories a wider voice. It would only be a debunking if they slammed the theories so hard it was embarrassing to think this crap (it is, and they should, but they won't). The MSM aren't hurting the DUmmies when only the far left has heard this crap so far and believed it. They're just spreading the word!

Second, the MSM are positioning themselves as mainstream again. "See, we weren't agreeing with those loony leftists--we MUST be moderate!"

Jennings can eat my shorts.

They are in a delusional state of mind, trying to tell themselves Kerry won. Nothing more.

I really like Sean Hannity, but I wish he would quit devoting so much time to letting the lefties rant on his radio show.

Hey, Sean, we don't want them to get it out of their systems; we want them to go insane and continue alienating normal people!

Both Carville and Brazille are getting on board the Hillary Express and don't want any distractions - they need to keep Kerry firmly in his electoral grave.

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend." (at least for the moment)

I'm not surprised by Carville.

While he can put on a good show of bluster, that's all it is, a show. He's far more rational than the lunatics that demand that irrationality onscreen.

He's wedded to the Clinton's, more so than to the Democrat Party. The Clinton's didn't need a functional Dem Party this election season. They need one in '06 and '08. This was spring break for the base. Now they are expected to go back to school and shape up on the surface for Hill's sake.

Yup. It isn't what they are doing, it is what is being reported. The public can be easily manipulated with words. Not only in media, but also in school and church.
