Austin 10th Meanest City Toward Homeless
KLBJ Radio AM 590 | 11/10.04 | Hard Way

Posted on 11/10/2004 7:02:41 AM PST by Hard Way

KLBJ AM quotes "National Coalition For The Homeless" that Austin is the "10th Meanest City" towards the homeless in the United States. Lady interviewed downtown at the capitol states (I'm paraphrasing here), "I think it's unfair. We have shelters for them to go to. I don't think we deserve to be ranked 10th". Advocate suggests that if downtown businesses raised minimum wage to 10.50, it would alleviate much of the problem.

Dang. Number 10. I know we can pull together and work our butts off to at least get to #5. Of course, we need to be focused on our goal and bump off Little Rock for number one! C'mon, we can do it!

(As if the homeless even work at downtown businesses anyway... 10.50/hr, give me a break!)

No, it wouldn't, because the hardcore homeless have no desire to work.

If I could get $10.50 an hour for being a bum, I might consider it.

The report went on to say that attempts to contact the National Coalition For The Homeless for further comment were unsuccessful, as their phone had been disconnected and mail was returned as undeliverable.

Little Rock, Ark. is the 'meanest' to homeless...
a week before the Clinton Presidential Center’s opening.

Yes, of course, the "Homeless" (formerly called Bums, winos, insane, etc) are homeless because the minimum wage is too low.

Typical left wing logic.

If you run a small business, like lawn care, and are forced to pay unskilled laborers 10.50 an hour, you will probably be forced to cut your work force or go out of business. This doesn't help the homeless.

The Clinton Library?

What is that? A trunk full of old Hustler magazines?

This surprises me. Austin is the most "liberal" city in Texas. It's the Santa Monica or San Francisco of Texas (if that makes any sense).

Not to worry - 99% of the homeless are not going to do physical labor anyway.

And Austin??? The Texas bastion of left wing do-gooders are "mean" to the homeless? GASP

Don't be silly, of course it will help the homeless. All the businesses forced to pay such a ridiculous wage will go bankrupt, and none will move in to the area. That will leave dozens and dozens of empty buildings for the homeless to move into and vandalize. Presto, they (and all the newly unemployed too) have homes!

Sure is. You'd think that all more kindhearted, peaceful and tolerant liberals there would be opening up their home to Austin's homeless. After all...its "for the children".

Wait a minute ... in Texas, Austin is the mecca for liberals. How in the world did they rank 10th? They are tolerant and thoughtful and kind ... what gives?

My first Post. How'd I do? (shameless solicitation for an atta' boy).

Yup, drive by these folks every day. They don't look like they would consider a $20/hr job. It would cut into their "me time".

Advocate suggests that if downtown businesses raised minimum wage to 10.50, it would alleviate much of the problem.

A significant percentage of those making $8 or $9 an hour would lose their jobs and join their compadres on the street – which is really all the “homeless advocates” are actually after.

Without the homeless, “homeless advocates” would be living on the street instead.
