Prisoners of Capital (Arise, ye zottees of the earth!)
The late RLuxembourg, channeled through Reddy Kilozot.

Posted on 11/10/2004 7:50:14 AM PST by RLuxembourg

Millions of human beings around the world are forcibly detained, their liberties removed by governmental authorities. Anyone who takes seriously the immediate potential for replacing capitalism with a world of real abundance and freedom knows already that the great majority of crimes are either crimes against property or involve the illegal trafficking of property — or are the likely direct result of living the restricted and stressful life of a wage-slave.

While there are those who justify the existence of laws on moral and ideological grounds, the defenders of the status-quo must always argue their case referring to a swashbuckler’s haven of spurious doctrines, some of them philosophical (“free will”), theological (“good and evil”), psychological (“mental illness”) or political (“justice”). And yet the wasting away of countless millions of human lives remains a potent critique of a society of private property, as much as the maltreatment and exploitation of animals or children in our society. The sheer hypocrisy and failure of the law is inevitably the feature subject of this article.

It is illegal to kill one’s fellows in a fit of rage but perfectly legal to kill fellow workers from other countries to satisfy the ruling class’s need to protect or assert its economic or political spheres of influence in another part of the world. One must not steal, say both the law and the Bible, and yet it is perfectly legal and morally acceptable to rob working people every day of the wealth they produce above their wages, distilling the high life for the greedy and lazy few out of the gradated deprivations visited on the majority, stymying people’s efforts to provide enough for themselves and their children. The subject of prisons goes to the very heart of our so-called civil society, putting to shame the naïve suggestion that we live in a democratic society. The truth is that a society of privilege must be protected by the brute powers of the law. We are not allowed to enjoy more wealth than the crumbs we are permitted in our wages or welfare income, and anybody who attempts this in our society will be handcuffed and taken away.

Make no mistake about it, the lack of freedom inside the prison cells directly mirrors the lack of freedom for working people outside them. On the outside you will be forced to work, unless you want to live in a cardboard box and seek food in a garbage can; you will be forced to accept your wages or salary for the work you do, forced to accept the nature of the job, forced to spend vast hours of your life even outside work just preparing for it and getting to and from it. You will be forced to put up with the other side effects of capitalism — its pollution, its stress, its shoddy goods, its wars, and the fact that billions must starve to death, including tens of millions of children each year. Your “free” time itself will be carved up into the various consumer “entertainments” and “pleasures” available for the right price.

What is truly yours in capitalism is debatable. Your fate and that of the prisoners who languish behind bars every day are inseparably intertwined. Indeed, inside or outside prison, we will never be free until we establish a society in which humans come first and the production of wealth is oriented toward meeting our needs and those of our children — one in which we are no longer forced to work in order to be adequately fed, clothed and housed, and in which the economic priorities of the rich no longer send poor and uneducated youth to die abroad, or condemn the planet to a slow death by self-poisoning. When property is owned in common, we will find ways as a community to better meet our needs for wealth, creativity, decisionmaking, love, rest, productivity, and freedom.

We challenge the myth of the present era that some people are good and others evil, or that crime is an entirely moral issue. We maintain that behavior must be understood in its social context: that of a society divided into two classes, one owning the vast proportion of wealth without working for it, and the other producing all the wealth while owning but a miniscule proportion of it.

Until the vast majority of us are liberated from the prison of being workers, we must denounce all the moralistic assumptions and shoddy social analyses of our public behaviors that lead so many of us to be locked away behind bars. We will on such a glorious day liberate our brothers and sisters in jail, and we urge them now to join us in the worldwide project of designing a system that promotes for real the enjoyment of the abundant wealth and freedom that are our birthright.

Let me guess? You're a fan of Noam Zotsky.

Geez, what is it with you people using 4000 words to make a one sentence point?

Human nature is just part of nature.

There is what we might described as "home economics" of shared labor and preparation even among birds.

Certainly many animals, including our cousins the monkeys, form themselves into hierarchical, male-dominated bands and have social rules.

Now, thanks to the spark of God within us, we can rise above being just animals. But we still are animals, bound to the earth for our survival. And with so many of us needing so many resources we have to live, there has got to be a hierarchy, there has to be law and order, and it has to be enforced against those who don't want to follow it.
This is true everywhere on Earth. There are no exceptions, and there never were and never will be.

So yes, I am directly including the economic and hierarchical legal behavior of human beings to the laws of physics, because they are derivates of the same laws of nature. Indeed, the laws of economics and the social order is primarily a reaction to the impositions of nature upon us. Would we spend so much time growing, transporting and preparing food if we really didn't need to eat? Would there be a highly articulated real estate market if we wouldn't freeze to death, or roast in the sun, or get eaten by bugs, by just living naked outside? Would we have any restraints on sexual behavior at all, given how good it feels, if sex didn't come with powerful natural consequences, like pregnancy and the need to support other mouths, and disease?
No, no and no.

So yes: the laws of economics are the human derivative of the laws of physics. The moral laws that are frequently not perfectly in accord with our physical self-interest are a derivate of our minds, which are not physical structures but creations of the divine. The two co-exist only in a guarded truce.

We challenge the myth of the present era that some people are good and others evil

Yeah, that Saddam fella is just misunderstood. His sons, dropping people into plastic shredders feet-first so that their screams could be relished, cannot be given a bad label of some kind! Why, that would be, umm, bad! We're bad because we label others as bad... and since they're bad and we're bad, let's just not label anyone as bad, and everything wil be all better!

ROFL... and you say that we live in a comfortable world (post 19).

or that crime is an entirely moral issue.

Umm, pootie-pie, it is virtually axiomatic that criminal behavior is immoral or a-moral, and that moral behavior is not criminal. You might as well try to assert that speaking is not an entirely verbal issue. There may be miniscule exceptions, but by and large, for the history of mankind and in every culture and society ever to have graced the planet, the axiom has been regarded as foundational...

but that is the entire point for you, isn't it? Anything that can disrupt the foundation of American capitalist society must be undermined, atacked, besmirched, and annihilalted, all so that you can watch yet another fantasy of Communism become a nightmare of oppression, decay, government-sanctioned murder, and starvation. Here's to relishing the fact that you're banging your head in futility against History, logic, human nature, and the overwhelming majority of the American population (I have to estimate that virtually every Marxist-leaning person votes, repeatedly, while most of the non-voting half of Americans know what a joke that philosophy truly is). Cheers!

"What is truly yours in capitalism is debatable."

True, but what is truly yours in communism is not - the answer is "nothing."

Look, I'll go ahead and give you a serious, direct answer to the thing you posted.

Why should I care more about workers than capitalists?
What gives the laborer an ounce of greater worth than the oisif?

Marx decided that everything should revolve around the laboring class, that workers, for some reason, have some intrinsic moral value superior to all other economic classes of people.

Why?
Based on WHAT?

Based on his own opinion.
Workers have no more value than anybody else.
And everybody, everybody in this world - capitalists included - suffers. Workers do not suffer more than capitalists, and having to work is not a greater burden or pain than, say, being born blind, or having muscular dystrophy, or being a capitalist who gets his teeth busted out in a car accident.

Marx defined moral worth of human beings based on what they do for a living.
His basis for doing this was??? NOTHING. His own strange opinion. There is no basis for it in physical nature. There is no basis for it the "balance of pain". There is no basis for it in religion, certainly (which is why he hated religion so much, apparently).

So, you've posted a long manifesto about the evils of people who happen to have a little money, and the horrible burden that it is to have to work. What's that based on?
Nothing.
It's a wierd fantasy.
Most laborers are not miserable.
Work is hard, yes. But it's hard for everybody. The curse of Adam. The curse of Eve. Speaking metaphorically anyway.
Work is by no means the most painful thing we face, and Marxists turn labor into some sort of martyrdom. Again, based on WHAT?
Again: nothing.

k, here's a question: Why do you people who come here (to FR) to disrupt, ever think that anything is ever changed by all the posts you've had in the past?

1. The ranting, raving, maniacal post. That's probably my fave, I must admit, for reasons of humor alone, but please, do you see ONE person on the thread saying, "hey, that's a good point, I'm gonna be a liberal now!"?

2. The far left post, usually by someone like Noam Chumpski, or some such. Do you honesly think that no one here has read Mr. Chumpski's work before? Do you really think that will do anything to change anyone's mind? Have you seen ONE person on the thread say, "Hey, that's a good point, I'm gonna be a liberal now!"?

3. The incoherent post, usually about "those evil jooos". Do you honestly believe that all conservatives are racists, and are going to join in a Nazi-like chant, calling for the public execution of all the "dirty hook nosed Joos"? Have you seen ONE person on the thread say, "Hey, that's a good point, I'm gonna be a liberal now!"?

RLuxembourg, when you create another nickname (and we all know you're going to), answer these questions please in your next thread. Answer these questions, because I'd really like to understand the mindset here. Please do answer, because it seems like to me, you, and people like you, really do this because you have a strange fetish that demands you hit your head on a brick wall, multiple times, each day. Kind of like a compulsive disorder.
