Man those guys are really ladden down with gear.

Even carrying all the gear, the Marines know how to put a hurt on the bad guys.

Yeah, this picture reminds me when I was 14 years old and my father caught me doing something wrong and he took control of my existence on plant earth.

Wish you could see me grinning at the thought. The Marine in that photo sure looks pissed, like he isn't about to take any s#@t from those puny warriors of Allah.

"the Marines know how to put a hurt on the bad guys."

Probably not nearly what they would like to if the press and their officers weren't looking!!! I would sure give them permission!

Good link, Marine Uncle. At various times in the past -- ever since 9/11 -- I have posted the links to all the home pages for the services. We can't do it enough as far as I'm concerned.

BTW, what do you think of those two photos of the Marines dragging those puny terrorists around by the scruffs of their necks? Cool, huh?!

You're very welcome. Other than pray for them, and send them care packages, there's not much we here at home can do for them. One thing we can easily do take a few minutes to think of them and honor them.

I was so damned sick of all the nonsense coming out of our media the last couple of days -- Arafat, Scott Peterson, the 50-something woman with twins, ad nauseum -- that I needed to do something to focus on the only news story that matters right now.

Sound good or what?

Sounds very good. Although I've never been someone hung up on acquiring a lot of material goods, it's times like this I wish I had the resources necessary to implement an idea like yours.

Here I sit - an old Soldier already with one combat tour under my belt - working in the Pentagon making twice what these young troops make....and I feel guilty as hell. I am trying my best to get back to Iraq. I feel so out-of-place.

They also serve who stand and wait.

Seriously, your doing what you're doing is helping keep those young fellows safe. Keep doing it and do your very best (that old saw about doing your utmost "in the station of life to which God (or the higher-ups) has been pleased to call me" really has some truth in it.) My F-I-L wound up at the Pentagon after Guadalcanal, Iwo, and Saipan. He also felt a little "out of it" but ultimately realized he was doing good where he was.

Thanks for pinging your list. Don't know if it will work, but I'd like to try to keep this going as long as the fighting goes on in Fallujah. Keep adding fresh photos and keep the prayers, praise, and discussion going in their honor. Lest we forget...

Women have been fighting beside the men through out all conflicts.

Women have traditionally provided support roles. Rosie the Riveter, I don't recall reading of any females "fighting beside the men" in WWII. Not American women at least.

If this photo doesn't tear the heart out of even the strongest among us, nothing ever will:

That just seems like a terrible invasion of what ought to be a most private grief.

I honor the young Marine for comforting the dad in his sorrow . . . but the photographer ought to have stayed away. He's pretty close to a ghoul.

The U.S. service man (and woman) -- the toughest, and the tenderest, people in the world. To enemies in the field, their worst nightmare; to allies and to oppressed peoples, their greatest defender.

Proposed 2005 Budget Contains Money For Troop Pay Raise

By Gerry J. Gilmore
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Feb. 1, 2004 – The president's proposed fiscal 2005 budget boosts defense spending to continue the war on terror, providing another pay raise for troops and increasing homeland security spending.

"We will devote the resources necessary to win the war on terror and protect our homeland," President Bush said Jan. 31 during his weekly radio address to the nation.

With U.S. forces deployed worldwide in the fight against terrorism, Bush noted his proposed budget boosts defense spending by 7 percent, with money earmarked for equipment, ammunition and troop housing.

"We'll keep our military strong and ready for every challenge that may come," the commander in chief vowed.

Bush observed that military pay has increased 21 percent since he took office. He said his proposed fiscal 2005 budget contains funding to increase service members' pay by another 3.5 percent next year.

"Our troops put their lives on the line to defend America," Bush pointed out, "and we owe them our best in return."

Bush said his proposed budget "nearly triples homeland security spending over 2001 levels, including an increase of nearly 10 percent next year, to $30.5 billion." This money, he explained, would be used to improve security at borders, airports and seaports, and to better prepare the U.S. against biological attack.

The president said his proposed fiscal 2005 budget also contains money to boost the FBI's budget by 11 percent, and a $357-million increase in counterterrorism activities.

"America will not let its guard down in our war on terror," Bush concluded.
