THE BLAIR SWITCH PROJECT (journo fraud lives in basement, finds "salvation")
NY POST ^ | 11/14/04 | KEITH J. KELLY

Posted on 11/14/2004 4:39:51 AM PST by Liz

Jayson Blair, the diminutive ex-journalist who shook up the mighty New York Times when his serial plagiarism was revealed last year, has all but evaporated from public view.

Now seeing a psychiatrist and a psychologist and working out of a basement office in his parents' home in Centreville, Va., he says he has found God and thinks he has a calling other than journalism — although he's not sure what it is yet.

The one thing that hasn't changed is his compulsive reading habit. And on his bedside table these days is Seth Mnookin's chronicle of the Times debacle, "Hard Times."

"Seth is the Kenneth Starr-type prosecutor of Howell Raines," Blair said in a phone interview. "I guess I'm the Monica Lewinsky of the story."

While Mnookin's book is heavily laced with anecdotes about the writers and editors who unearthed the scandal, Blair thinks it may have missed the more important story — not surprising he feels it is his own.

Blair gives talks in the Virginia area four or five times a month, where he discusses his memoir, "Burning Down My Master's House." The book, which hit stores in May, sold poorly before the publisher, New Millennium, declared bankruptcy. He's trying to get the paperback rights back, he said, so he can reissue it and correct some of the mistakes.

"I believe there is a better purpose for me....." Blair said. "I don't think it is journalism. I got into it originally because I wanted to help people."

He still hopes his memoir will be picked up and turned into a movie.........

He split up with his girlfriend....a low-level Times employee who quit in the wake of the scandal that engulfed their lives........"We're not together any more," he said. "She moved to Miami to work for the Kerry campaign."

Mnookin.... said he still doesn't understand the man who brought the Gray Lady to its knees.......and that he's shown is that he's hard to get a handle on....."When I did the Newsweek interview, he seemed incredibly remorseful, and then he did the Observer interview and seemed to have no remorse at all."

That's because Jayson is a compulsive liar.....and not a very good one, at that.

He's a rank opportunist who will do or say anything to save himself......and always at the expense of others.

That's also a good definition of a conniving liberal.

Jayson's newfound religion was no doubt hastened by the 2004 election results.

Yeah ... funny how he had to announce that he "found God". Perhaps his conscience got to him. Or maybe he wants attention for a book he will come out with. Sounds more like an opportunist to me.

Had he truly found God, my inclination is to think he would be rather more subdued about it.

That's because Jayson is a compulsive liar

I disagree. I think he is simply playing the role that was handed to him. The NYT didn't care about his stories; they cared about his skin color.

No kidding?

What a privilege to have a bridge-owner on the thread.

How much did they sting you for....I mean how much did you fork over?

Jayson needs to get his resume over to CBS. There's a rumor that an anchor job will be opening up.

I have to lol as I watch the liberals get 'God'. Hardest part of their new script will be presenting themselves as 'humble'.

That is not something one fakes and it is required, acceptance of Whom is ultimately in control.

BWA HA HA HA HA HA!

Best part of the article (besides that) is how his girlfriend QUIT...to move to Miami to work for the Kerry campaign.

Not 'was fired for her bias.' God forbid that the old grey bitch have evenhanded staff members at all. I'm sure they gave her substantial severance even though she quit!

He will probably be visiting churches across the country, telling about his life....for a small donation for his "ministries" of course.

If you think thats funny, just wait till you see many libs and dims "find God" between now and 2008!! But what we should really watch is to see if Church donations go up. Just a guess, but we may see a decrease in funds over the next 4 years.

It just stands to reason that when the Klintonistas start showing up in Churches to "find God", they're going to see that Churches get donations and probably some of these funds will leave with them, ala Sandy Bergers secret files and Roger Chiangs DNC funds and Hugh Rodhams "pardons for dollars" fund. Sticky fingers all, those klintonistas....but they come by that honsestly, they learned from Slick and the Beast.

Seems she has a talent for picking losers.
