In Germany, a "far right wing" would be church-going people.

Thanks for saying that, since I wanted to as well! In America, these are called "evangelicals."

The only people fearing a return of the right to power are the leftists.

I didn't, but figured you were European, from the detailed run -down of the German political parties. Nice work, that.

This particular lie by the Left really peeves me, and I try to make the point on it as much as possible. In response to your excellent post, seemed to be a good place for it.

Welcome to FreeRepublic, glad to have you aboard.

Which party does Schroeder belong to?

Schroeder belongs to the SPD, the traditional left-wing pro-union German party. Nevertheless, he represents the "right-wing" of this party which is analogue to Blair's New Labour, especially when it comes to fiscal and monetary policy. In any case, Schroeder has a hard time implementing the necessary economic reforms because the Old Guard of the SPD (Oskar Lafontaine et al) cater to the unions and NOT to the employers.

It's a new "Pact of Steel", if you ask me.

A convenient ideological alliance of the Red, Brown and Green.

Even though it's predominated in Europe for several years now, you can also see the germination of this movement among certain fringe elements in America, e.g. the paleoconservatives and hard core pacifists, who both share a visceral hatred of the exercise of American power abroad.

"Germany will not go quietly towards an islamic future."

Got to disagree. The Germans will make half hearted moves toward survival, but will be branded NAzis at every turn. I don't see doing much but giving in, rather than displease the UN..Look at the cold war, East Germany laid down, unlike Poland and even Hungary.Germany won't last 100 yrs.
Oh, and Japanese cars are way better.

Schroeder is a member of the Social Democratic Party which are European mainstream socialist (bad enough).

Even worse are the Greens, environmental wacko-turned former (?) Communists . Those people are the coalition party of the socialists. Their most important head is Foreign Secretary Joschka Fischer, a former street fighter with dubious past.

There are also the Free Democratic Party (FDP)which is very sensible (pro-market) in economic issues but not to soft in other fields.

The east German Commies are organized in the PDS ("Party of Democratic Socialism", mind the contradictio in adiecto).

The "good guys" are CDU and CSU although occasionally not conservative enough for my taste.

Not exactly "evangelicals", but more traditional-minded Catholics, who are opposed to bigger government. It's because when Bismarck united the various German kingdoms, duchies, etc., Bavaria which had a proud independent and Catholic history, was put under the thumb of Bismarck and his Prussian government. The result was the May laws which were very anti-Catholic and oppresive. The Bavarians might be compared a bit to the American "south", in that they have their own cultural identity and are very much looked down upon by the establishment media (MSM)in Germany. I have actually come into contact with an anti-Bavarian attitude from Germans BEFORE I tell them my grandmother was a daughter of Bavarian immgrants! Germans in the northern areas think Bavarians are stupid hicks. Does that sound familiar to you? I can tell you that nearly all of the anti-American blather in Germany is coming from places other than Bavaria!

at some point, the "branding" means nothing. look at what the american right is branded as - the voters that just elected Bush, the media hates them, mocks their religious beliefs, etc. so what.

Hardly, is correct but from DW-TV it appears people in Westphalia and Bavaria are conservative and church-going.

"They call everyone they don't like "right wing" for propaganda purposes."

That is a good point you make - the Germans are still in a deep guilt trip concerning the Nazi era so that the vilest word they can level at anyone is "far right wing."

Yeah, I don't think they ever made it over the 5% hurdle. A small, but dedicated membership. I probably don't remember the exact name, it has been a while.

Inherently Nationalism is NOT bad. Yet combined with Statism (Socialist big government) it forms an explosive combination: Fascism and, even worse, National-Socialism.
