Someone that sets themselves on fire, or, as it appears in this case, set themselves on fire accidently whilst trying to burn their posessions in front of the White House, is a disturbed, irrational individual, and likely, in this case, a thrall to the idiotic propaganda that would convince someone that buring something in front of the White House is anything other than impotent, irrational idiocy. It is not a political statement (not a coherent one, anyway.) If this person has been Black, white, green, American, Asian, whatever, the same thread would appear. There are plenty of Darwin threads where the 'candidate' was white.

We believe in equal opportunity in all things, even when it comes to finding humor in sad, idiotic displays.

The same people making silly comments will most likely be the first people to pray for peace, for this man, and for all of us.

It would only shock me if it wasn't a required course. Just my opinion, but yes, I believe Islam is responsible for much of the evil this world is fighting today, not just in Iraq and Afghanistan. They accept oppression of women to the point of stoning them for punishment, murdering them for perceived wrongs (being raped by a man causes the WOMAN to be killed), and demanding allegiance to a cult whose goal is to murder everyone who isn't on board. They murder babies & children "still clutching toys" as some form of discipline? They cut off hands, tongues, and heads as "justice"?

It isn't racist to look at history, acknowledge the addition of recent truths and realize this has been happening in Islamic history long before America was founded. So I will never buy into the argument that Islamic "rebellion" is caused by American imperialism, which apparently is what our colleges are teaching.

Man starts fire outside White House From correspondents in Washington

A BEARDED man shouting "Allah" was injured while apparently setting fire to his belongings outside the White House today and was quickly subdued by Secret Service guards.

A Reuters reporter saw the man try to present a manila envelope to guards near a Secret Service post on Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington.

Moments later, a plume of smoke rose above the guard post, while two guards wrestled the man to the ground and a third extinguished flames that engulfed his briefcase and overcoat a few metres away.

The man, who appeared to suffer from a burn to his right hand, groaned and repeatedly shouted "Allah", as guards held him on the ground. The area was cordoned off and fire trucks and ambulances arrived on the scene.

Neither the Secret Service nor the White House offered immediate comment on the incident, and the man was not identified.

John and Beverly Beers, tourists from Florida, caught the incident with a video camera and have turned the tape over to the Secret Service... Developing...

I can't even being to imagine why you think this would shock any of us? We'd be shocked if you said you weren't studying this subject. And just so you know, many here have studied the same subject, lived in the Middle East and are fluent in Arabic. I'm not sure what your point is.
