Think about this: The Secret Service knows when the Deer Season starts in Arkansas. These guys are nothing if not thorough.

All the while the secret service men were talking to me about the pheasants and my bird dog. After I arrived home and was recounting this to my wife, she looked startled and said"oh my God your shotgun was in plain sight its a wonder they didn't arrest you!" I guess my purple heart license plate and my Bush sticker on the car assured them I was somewhat safe.Maybe it was the license plate and the bumper sticker or maybe they were talking to you so they could keep an eye on you.

The "take the sport so seriously" phrase is obviously not true anyway. If they really took deer hunting seriously they wouldn't be going to work during deer season. At least until after filling the tag.

>>>I had been out pheasant hunting and had my shotgun in its case lying in the open in back of my station wagon--as I turned onto main street I was motioned to the curb because President Bush was in town--in fact he walked right past my car.All the while the secret service men were talking to me about the pheasants and my bird dog.
LOL. My guess is the shotgun in the back was why they were so friendly with you. Good to keep an eye on you and all that, but at least they handled it quite reasonably.

They also know that any real trouble for the Prez would most likely occur in a blue state where weapons are illegal. Ironic isn't it?

I just thought the tone was odd about how hunters "take the sport so seriously" they keep rifles in their car.... Can you imagine a article saying "They take the sport so seriously they keep a football in the car"?It doesn't seem odd at all. Guns are not footballs. You have to be more careful with them. Bad people will make more of an effort to steal a rifle than football.

Bad people will make more of an effort to steal a rifle than football. No, I'm talking about that one line, separate from the rest of the article... It makes hunters out to be nuts because we might a gun in our car... Here's how I take what they're saying: Your average person wouldn't even consider doing this, but these hunters are so crazy about hunting, they'd put a gun in their car so they could go off into the woods and shoot some poor innocent wild animal in the hours after work without wasting time going home first. The nerve!
