More groups speak out against potential chair of Judiciary Committee
More activists are speaking out against the possible appointment of Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, including a leading rabbi and a gun-rights group.
Specter, who won re-election to the Senate this month, is in line to become chairman of the committee that scrutinizes all presidential judicial appointments. After making comments both before and after the election suggesting he would block approval of "extremist" or pro-life judges, however, a firestorm of opposition to his becoming chairman began.
Rabbi Yehuda Levin, speaking for the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada and The Rabbinical Alliance of America, which represent over 1,200 Orthodox rabbis, issued a strong statement opposing Specter's appointment.
"Arlen Specter is the wrong man, in the wrong place, at the wrong time," Levin said in a statement. "He has made it clear that he agrees with revisionist judges who ignore the original intent of America's Founding Fathers and, instead, substitute their own intent – whatever is politically correct at the moment.
"Specter will not look kindly on judicial candidates who do not toe the line on his liberal ideas. He wants judges on the bench who will advance his degenerate agenda of abortion-on-demand, radical homosexual rights, rapacious lawyers, tax increases and the rape of America's constitutional liberties."
Added the rabbi: "If John Kerry had won the election and the Democrats had taken control of the Senate, would they have allowed a pro-life senator like Zell Miller to head the Judiciary Committee?"
Also coming out swinging against Specter's potential chairmanship is Gun Owners of America. In a statement, the group praised its members for "burning up the Capitol Hill phone lines and computer terminals" by contacting lawmakers about Specter in recent days.
"Senators once believed the elevation of anti-gun trial-lawyer-stooge Arlen Specter to the chairmanship of the Senate Judiciary Committee was a 'given.' But no more," the group said.
"As chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Specter would have jurisdiction over:
GOA is encouraging its members to contact President Bush to ask him to pressure committee members not to choose Specter as chairman.
I think He's done folks...unless Dubya intercedes for him, and I hope He will not.
This is looking better all the time--BORK SPECTER!
Ok, for my Christian friends who were confused by how many "Jews" supported Kerry--THIS is a REAL Jew, not a "JINO". When all the commie holocaust escapees in Boca die off and intermarrying "Jewish" athiests in NYC are done, there will be left only REAL Jews, who coincidentally voted for Bush 70% this year!
It seems to me that the person holding that slot should be at the very least in the center of Republican ideology in the Senate, if not closer to the more conservative side. After all, conservative values are what define out party.
btt
What are they doing here then? They should be in Eretz Yisrael.
Gun toting Rabbis are also opposed
BTTT
I am pretty certain that Yehuda Levin is not associated with the Union of Orthodox Rabbis.
Just a heads up!
I called all the Judicial Committee members today. It seems they are getting a few calls. I got phone mail at Senator Lindsey Graham’s office “If you’re calling regarding the Judiciary Chair press 1…”.
The hot setup is to put the Capitol Hill Operator number on your speed dial or redial and request the Senators office by name. It’s free and it's faster than you can dial it yourself, if the office line is busy, just request to be connected to the next Senator in line.

Well, the GOA is out of line then. Everyone knows the NRA can do no wrong, and is concerned ONLY with RKBA.
