NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Teenagers raised by two women appear to be as well adjusted as those who are raised by male-female couples, a new report indicates.
"Their adjustment is pretty normal - that is, indistinguishable from a matched group of kids being raised by opposite-sex parents," said study author Dr. Charlotte J. Patterson of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
Specifically, teens with same-sex parents appeared to be no more likely to have psychological problems, struggle at school, try intercourse, or have problems at home, the investigators found.
Critics have argued that same-sex parents "may in some way harm the children that are raised in these households," Patterson told Reuters Health. "And I think that our results speak to that concern, to some degree."
Previous research about children raised by same-sex parents has shown that by and large they tend to fare as well as their peers raised by a man and woman.
One study of teenagers raised by divorced lesbians found they had similar self-esteem as teenagers of divorced heterosexual parents, and appeared to fare better if their mothers had a partner living at home, their fathers were supportive of the relationship, and they learned of their mothers' orientation when they were relatively young.
To investigate further how teenagers fare with same-sex parents, Patterson and her colleagues reviewed information collected from a national sample of 44 12- to 18-year olds -- 23 girls and 21 boys -- living with mothers in same-sex partnerships.
The researchers compared those adolescents to 44 teens with mothers in opposite-sex relationships.
As reported in the journal Child Development, the investigators found that, overall, teens with parents in same-sex relationships appeared to have relatively high levels of self-esteem, little anxiety, few signs of depression, and to do well in school.
44 "families" is not nearly a large enough sample size to get a true reading on it.
Plus, it says nothing about the development of the sexual orientation of these kids.
It's actually very sad in my opinion. And another attack on the NORMAL family.
Look at the source.
I'd be very cautious about accepting reports like this. The results in surveys of social behavior are often distorted by those doing the survey, in order to prove one particular thesis or another. (Look at the famous Kinsey report, for example, which was an outrageous manipulation of data, skewed to support Kinsey's own theories.)
I think this is the exact line used in Jeff Dahmers scool transcrips
Growing up with freaky pervert parents - yeah, that's normal.
As in all fields, there are those in psychiatric/psychological circles who like to speak for the entire field, and of course the media latches on to them, especially if it fits their politically correct ideology.
I wonder if boys raised by lesbians would be more or less prone to violence... Could swing either way.
One small difference was noted, however, in that the boys with two same sex male parents appeared highly uncomfortable when asked to sit down to be interviewed...
This ranks right up there with the greatest Leftist lies, starting with Khruschev's "We will bury you!" proclamation.
Charlotte J. Patterson has been pushing this putrid Gay agenda since at least 1990. She has the same believability of any left winger.

Define "normal." Impossible to do in regards to a human being. We are just too complex. And since parents are the primary influence, don't tell me that a boy seeing his mom kissing his other "mom" everyday is a good influence on him. Think about it...
Silicon,
this is a crock of you know what, on the shelf right next to John Kerry's crock analyses. We simply can't believe everything we read, especially when it goes against common sense. Given how strange and insecure homo/lesbian relationships are, it is impossible to believe this.
Only the left could deny that kids don't need a mom and a dad. It's so obvious, you have to have gone to graduate school to come up with that inanity.
Seriously, I don't think the problems will crop up until later in life when they develop serious relationships with other people. How can you be a good (male) father when your parental role model was two dykes?
So what? Who cares? We're sick of all this justification of abnormal lifestyles.
Homosexuality is not normal, moral, or healthy, and it never will be.
The two girls in question struggled with their own sexuality, one becoming a lesbian ... the other not sure but dresses and acts like a drag queen.
I wonder why they settled for merely "as normal", they probably didn't want to push their luck.
You only need to get the experts of your choosing ( or choose the people you want to claim are "experts" ) into that position where they get to determine what normal is and you can get any results you want for your study.
