Methodists, What are Your Church Leaders Up To?
United Methodist Church, Institute on Religion and Democracy, et al. ^

The Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church http://www.vaumc.org will make several appeals to state lawmakers. Do you know what they are? Are they consistent with conservative, Christian values?

And do Methodists in Virginia have any idea what the church's General Board of Church and Society is doing with your offering. You may be surprised to find out, but Yassir Arafat and anti-American hate groups are well aware of Methodist benevolence.

I'm sure that you are happy where you attend church, if you do. And I can assure you that I am aware of the NCC/WCC and while I do not support these groups, I intend to stay a Methodist.

Here in the area of Columbus, Georgia and Phenix City, Alabama we have a score of United Methodist Churches and one very small single Independent Methodist Church. I noticed the Independent Church supported missionaries in the Ukraine which is good but I wonder if it would not be more productive to support missionaries (or agents) to the United Methodist Churches.

The typical Methodist is conservative and enjoys studying the Bible and hates the liberal directions of the bureaucratic body.

The "exploitation of workers" is supported by the UMs despite their rhetoric against it. The board of Global Ministries was a cheering section for the Sandinistas. They have no problem with China's toy triangle because those slaves get free dental care.

I think basic Methodist doctrine is great and much more Biblical than the "Churches of Christ" but I do admire the less bureaucratic structure of those Campbellites.

It's a free country and if you intend to stay in your church, that's your call. Just don't give them your money unless you like the socialist, communist, and totalitarian causes they endorse and support.

And to what church do you belong?

Gosh, can I still give to our missions society?

It's happening even in the backwaters of America.
A Methodist church in Williamsport MD held a "blessing of the beasts" and they included a photo in the local paper.
A woman clad in a black hooded robe stood barefoot in the Novemember cold, blessing the resident's critters.
Until I read the caption, I thought it was some sort of pagan thing.
My gramma goes to that church and she despises W, in accordance with her pastor's will.

She's 80-something and the thought of her amongst all that new-age jazz freaks me out.

My congregation sounds so much like yours. We have that Bible out every Sunday reading and receiving from it. You can designate your offering so that it does not support anything you do not approve. Denco

I think the same thing, when I see the "majority such as yourself" attacking my church.

Exactly. The reason I have stayed in the UMC all these years is just that. I don't get outside support, but I am a missionary. It's not a stealth thing. My church is my mission field. That's why I'm there.

>>And to what church do you belong?<<

Not that I'm required to answer, but if you insist, I belong to a church affiliated with the Dallas Theological Seminary. ( http://www.dts.edu/ ) It's an independent Bible church and we support many missions abroad including Christians working in Beslan Russia where the children were taken hostage and blown up by Muslims who hated them and the message their parents teach.

Sunday we'll be making baskets (550) for the poor in our small community. We'll be working hard well past the time you might spend watching a good football game Sunday afternoon.

I left my Episcopal church in 1964 because of the heresy they were teaching. I learned then what the enemy was doing to corrupt mainline religions and lying to its members.

Burn your offering in the BBQ. It'll do just as much good.

I should have added "IMHO* to my last sentence. Sorry, but I have a real short temper when it comes to the leftists who have taken over our beloved churches!

I bailed on the UMC a while back. There are some good people in some local UMC churches, trying to be a light in a darkening room. I couldn't continue.

The Methodist Church is probably further to the left than even the Episcopalian Church.

There a lot of conservative Methodists, but they are leaking away to other fundamentalist Christian churches very rapidly.

I'm not sure why the defensive tone. As Al Gore might say in this case, "There is no controlling legal authority". As far as missions go, the United Methodist Church sponsors numerous missions in Russia as well.

Excellent, keep up the good work.

I left my Episcopal church in 1964 because of the heresy they were teaching. I learned then what the enemy was doing to corrupt mainline religions and lying to its members.

I have chosen to stay in my Methodist Church to try to work reform from the inside. And also, our local Methodist Church only pays lipservice to what comes down from the national office.

Well in another time and place I might argue with you on this point. But quite honestly at this time I am more worried about the back door attempt by hanoi john kerry to steal Ohio with the aid of the Green party.

) Gender roles diminished 2) Israel Abandoned
3) Theology becomes "grey"
4) Homosexuality promoted
5) People leave in droves

That is a sure way to destroy it.

I just don't get their new slogan, Open Hearts, Open Minds.

I understand the open hearts but open minds makes me wonder. Do they mean we should have an open mind to behavior that is sinful?

I have tried a few times over the years, but have yet to find anything useful.
I have been invited by people who came to my door looking for additional congregants. I would mention that I don’t own a suit. I was still welcome – if I came in late and sat in the back.
Another church (in Pennsylvania) accepted my late wife – she had a 10th grade education. I was straight out told not to bother because they didn’t need my kind – I have a BA.
I have not had a whole lot of luck.

I did and it broke my heart to do so. I'm sure the little churches, one of which I gave my heart and life to for many years, have no idea what really goes on. I wouldn't tithe to the UMC because I didn't know where the money was going. When I did begin to tithe at one UMC I was attending, I told them to put it into the pastor's housing fund.
