The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

"We should have secured the Mexican border."

That could be the pitiful lament we hear from negligent U.S. officials if Al Qaeda pulls off an attack on the United States using weapons of mass destruction smuggled across our southern frontier.

Were that horrendous event to happen, leaders in the administration and Congress would be justly hit with the same question that was perhaps unjustly cast at them and their predecessors after the unprecedented Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks: Why didn't they connect the dots?

Sounds very reasonble to me. OTOH, I'm so threat fatigued I can't get worked up over it.

I'm not worked up at all. I figure ultimately God is in control, there's little or nothing I can do about all that anyway other than personal protection, I live way out in the boondocks, and avoid stores in December anyway.

Gas station cashier won't be charged

By Tom Spalding
tom.spalding@indystar.com
December 6, 2004

Marion County prosecutors have dropped a charge against a cashier at a Northeastside gas station who was arrested last week after refusing to let a robbery victim call 911.

Said Azzawi, 36, an employee at the Citgo at 5060 E. 38th St., was jailed for about 10 hours between Thursday and Friday on a preliminary charge of interfering with the reporting of a crime, a misdemeanor. He faced a year in Marion County Jail if convicted.

But prosecutors believed Azzawi didn't violate the specific law, said spokesman Roger Rayl.

Azzawi denied a Papa John's pizza deliveryman who went to the gas station asking to use the store phone to call 911. The pizzaman had just been robbed.

Azzawi said he wanted to help but was reluctant because of past experience. He said he has been victimized by patrons who lie about why they want to use the store phone, instead of the two public pay telephones in the parking lot. When Marion County sheriff's deputies found out about Azzawi's action, though, they went to the Citgo and arrested Azzawi.

Azzawi said today he is glad the charge was dropped. He continues to work the roughly $7-an-hour job at the Citgo. "Everyone heard what happened to me and they (customers) say it's not right," he said today. "That makes me feel pretty good."

Accused Yemeni warned of 'storms' to U.S.

12/6/2004, 12:42 p.m. ET
By TOM HAYS
The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — A Yemeni sheik accused of funneling millions of dollars to terrorist networks warned U.S. agents that "Allah will bring storms" to America because of his arrest, according to newly filed court papers.

Mohammed Ali Hassan al-Moayad made the remark last year after a German court ordered him extradited to the United States to face charges he helped finance al-Qaida and Hamas, prosecutors said in the documents filed in U.S. District Court.

The statement — spoken in English to agents bringing al-Moayad from Frankfurt to New York on Nov. 16, 2003 — counter defense claims that he has no command of the language, prosecutors said.

"Allah is with me," he allegedly told a detective. "I am Mohammed al-Moayad. Allah will bring storms to Germany and America."

Prosecutors have previously alleged al-Moayad was overheard boasting about his relationship with Osama bin Laden, saying in Arabic that bin Laden "tells me that I'm his sheik."

The defense claims his statements during a sting operation at a hotel in Frankfurt were mistranslated from Arabic by FBI informant Mohamed Alanssi, who set himself on fire outside the White House last month.

The new documents, filed late Friday, offer details of al-Moayad's conversations with an undercover FBI operative posing as an American Muslim eager to donate $2.5 million to terrorist causes.

"Where is my money going to? Is it going to Hamas? Or is it al-Qaida? ... I need to know," the operative demanded during one clandestine meeting, according to the court papers.

Al-Moayad allegedly responded: "The way we see it is to support all organizations — Hamas, al-Qaida ... mujahideen and such. Everybody that we learn is fighting jihad to raise God's word we shall support."

The transcripts also say he told the operative he was in regular contact with Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal and had "knowledge of every aspect" of the Palestinian Islamic group.

The papers were filed in response to defense motions asking a judge to bar portions of the transcripts from al-Moayad's upcoming trial.

Attorneys for al-Moayad and his alleged accomplice, Mohammed Mohsen Yahya Zayed, have sought to discredit the transcripts by attacking Alanssi, who lured the cleric into the sting and acted as a translator between al-Moayad and the FBI operative.

A defense motion called Alanssi's translations "inaccurate, incomplete and frequently embellished." Alanssi is recovering from burns after setting himself on fire, reportedly because he was distraught over his role as a witness against al-Moayad.

But prosecutors suggested that because al-Moayad speaks English, he understood what the translator was saying during the sting and did not correct any alleged embellishments.

Prosecutors insist the translations were accurate, and said excluding portions of them from evidence would "make it almost impossible for the jury to understand what happened."

Observation - take a look at the video from Saudi Arabia this AM and see what type of cars the Saudi police are driving. Yep - good ol' American Ford Police Interceptors.

He said he has been victimized by patrons who lie about why they want to use the store phone, instead of the two public pay telephones in the parking lot.

The two public pay telephones in the parking lot will make a 911 call without need for any money to be deposited.

That's a good question SlowBoat407.
It's a question that I can't answer because
I don't know the individuals involved and
I don't know what is "truth" for them.

He seems to think his arrest is worth a few "storms" to America. He's probably just overestimating his importance to Allah.

I got chills as well. Because it reminded me of the story from earlier in Nov. when there was the story from NJ regarding someone trying to sell "black market" flu vaccine that was illegally imported from the Middle East and I think France. Anyway, when googling for a link, as a reminder of this story...which was never really resolved...as to who and why...well look what I found...and check the date of the info...Dec. 6..today!! Considering the name and connection....my gut feeling about this story was right on target.

Cops: Man Busted For Importing Illegal Vaccine (NJ - 12/6/04)

New Developments In Story First Seen On CBS 2 Dec 6, 2004 12:48 pm US/Eastern NEW JERSEY (CBS) The man police believe was illegally importing black market flu vaccine to New Jersey is behind bars.

Mohammed Mahmoud Abu Arqoub, 37, faces a Monday arraignment. He was picked up Saturday in Philadelphia, after federal sources say he was likely overseas looking for more illegal vaccine.

CBS 2 was there two weeks ago when agents from the Homeland Security Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement raided his home in Somers Point. They confiscated boxes of evidence relating to an alleged plot to smuggle flu vaccine to be sold in the U.S.

Agents said Abu Arqoub somehow obtained a 800 doses of a vaccine called Vaxigrip, which is made in France and not approved by the Food and Drug Administration. He is believed to have shipped the vaccine in individual syringes to Saudi Arabia to J.F.K. airport, and was intending to sell it to Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point.

The asking price was $55 a dose, or $44,000. Hospital officals called federal authorities when they were approached.

Officially, Abu Arqoub faces charges of illegally importing unapproved flu vaccine in the country.

Remember that AlQaeda has tried to remove the Saudi Royal family before in connection to terrorism in the US...kind of like an early warning or an attempt to distract attention while something else is about to go down...keep alert folks, methinks things are about to get bumpy...and I agree with another poster about December 7th...I hope I am wrong.
