Women and Wages: Busting The Myths (One Myth: Women Earn Only 72 Cents For Every Dollar Men Earn)
Independent Women's Forum ^ | 4/3/2001

Here are a few of the myths you'll probably hear on "Equal Pay Day," followed by the facts about women, wages and work.

Myth #1: Women earn only 72 cents for every dollar that men earn. If this myth were true, employers would be aeger to replace their male workers with cheaper (and better) female workers, and thus increase their profits. But the "72 cents" claim is misleading because it only refers to the median wages of all men and all women in the work force, without regard to age, education, occupation, experience or working hours -- factors that even the NCPE [National Council on Pay Equity] admits are valid explanations for different pay rates. When those key factors enter the equation, the "wage gap" disappears. Studies based on data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, taking into account these key variables, reveal that among people ages 27-33 who have never had a child, women's earnings are actually 98% of men's.

Myth #3: Women are funneled into low-paying jobs by a sexist society... Women who might be able to hold a better paying job often choose a job that pays less but provides more flexibility. This is not discrimination.

And the jobs women tend to avoid (such as farming, forestry, maintenance) sare not all that wonderful. Twenty-three out of the 25 worst jobs in the Jobs Related Almanac are more than 90 percent male, and men account for 92 percent of all job-related deaths.

At the link you can look at the statistics concerning such myths as: The wage gap is the result of discrimination, The "glass ceiling" prevents women fom holding top corporate jobs, etc.

Here's another interesting factoid. The average man works over 42 hours a week. The average woman works a little over 33 hours per week.

Women and Wages: Busting The Myths. Interesting article.

Knowledge like this should be made more readily available. A post like this is really necessary to counter the radical feminists.

Many myths abound, such as the "women earn only 72 cents per dollar that men earn".

Many women choose career paths that allow them greater flexibility, but less pay, and career paths that traditionally result in lees pay after college graduation.

Actually, if you factor in her paid maternity leave, all the time she spends Long-Distance "mothering" on the phone to her kids, running late, sending daily rounds of retarded "Here's to the Girls!!" e-mails, re-applying make-up, chit-chatting and diligently participating in and promoting the work of the Human "Resources" Peer Group Conditioning Activities which only waste company time and deform employee minds in the name of diversity, sensitivity, COMPLIANCE and other femme bs from the Corporate Governance crowd ... she probably works about 20 hours a week and generally earns three times what her male counterpart does.

Gosh ... how Clever of her to avoid all the really hard and dangerous work ... save for when she feels it is her "right" to risk the lives of those she serves -- not to mention her fellows -- and dumb down the profession generally by demanding she be hired as a fireman, soldier or beat cop. You go girl!!!

That's about right. My wife gets 72 cents of every dollar I make.

Divorce her and she will get 90 cents of every dollar you make. Plus your house, your car, your kids...

All this crying and bellyaching by women demanding equality in the workplace and society is madness.
Women cops are a ridiculous sight in crime ridden areas. There is no way that they can possibly catch/apprehend/subdue a fleeing criminal. There is no way that a woman firefighter can carry the average male out of a burning home. Putting women in these roles endangers lives.

But take the same woman who demands equal rights and put her in divorce court... suddenly she will not demand equality when she sees that in the majority of divorce cases, the courts screw the man. Women get custody of children in the lion's share of cases - even though they have been proven to be worse at raising children than single fathers.

The men are forced to pay for this of course. They are often hit with huge child-support payments and cannot demand an accounting of expenses from the ex-wife.

Not to mention alimony.

Good. The Independent Womens's Forum has a "boatload" more of info. concerning what I have posted.

Just use their search bar. Words like pay women men and equal have proven to be quite useful to me.

Askel, Have you never worked in a corporate environment? That time is matched by men talking sports, gossip, politics, etc. Drop the anti-woman stereotype.

I was once a factory foreman and my counterpart on 1st shift was a female. My 1st shift counterpart found that I made quite a bit more per week than she did so she filed a grievance.

When the company began weighing the merits of her grievance they found that she made more than I did based on her seniority. However my shift premium put me a few cents per hour over her rate. Further investigation found that she worked an average of 43 hours per week while I worked an average of 72 hours per week.

The funny thing is the fact that our production manager (another female) ended up giving me a sizable raise based on the fact that i volunteered for so many overtime hours and generally went beyond what my job called for.

The reason woman are not matched to men job for job is that these liberals want women to work. Women who want to stay at home and raise the children and maintain a household are told what losers they are by liberals.

Women earn only 72 cents for every dollar that men earn.

Hillary Clinton uses this propaganda all the time. For example:

An excerpt from "Union and other groups call for equal pay"

"... Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) noted that unequal pay costs American families an average of $4,000 a year. Pay equality is "a matter of fundamental fairness and equity," she said.

To opponents of equal pay legislation who claim the wage gap is due to other factors, such as women interrupting careers for childbearing or opting for more "flexibility," Clinton said that "study after study and personal experience puts the lie to that argument. . . . Whether it's tenured women professors at [the Massachusetts Institute of Technology] or women in factories or offices, we have not achieved the dream since 1963 to achieve equality in the workplace..."
