Always nervous when the Prez is on foreign soil, for this very reason.

Bush walked over to the agents, reached through the dispute and pulled his agent from the scrum.

He's still playing rugby!

ME TOO!

In this image from pool television, President Bush turns his back after noticing a commotion apparently when one of his secret service agents was prevented by Chilean police from entering the former Mapocho Train Station where leaders of the 21-member APEC are attending a formal dinner Saturday Nov. 20, 2004 in Santiago, Chile. The Secret Service agent was later allowed inside. (AP Photo/Pool TV) AP - 32 minutes ago

Remember Thanksgiving last year when he paid a surprise trip to the troops in Iraq and waded into the crowd to shake their hands and speak to them? The look on his face showed pride, respect, and love and the troops gave those things right back to him.

My son-in-law was one of those guys!!! :-)

This year he's not in Baghdad and has to settle for just me flying over to have Thanksgiving dinner with 'em on base in Alabama. No big time folks... but at least he's not in Baghdad. :-)

"Chilean security tried to stop the president's Secret Service from accompanying him," said White House deputy press secretary Claire Buchan. "He told them they were with him and the issue was resolved."

I want to know why they were denying the President his security people

This is one of those defining moments in a presidency, that little story that says so much. Dubya here told the world that his people, his men come first, and won't be denied. Watch headlines tomorrow in Chile and the world over: they'll be upset at the President for "interfering" with Chilean security, or whatever.

Know that the USSS is a burden upon visited countries. Brazil flipped out over SS demands over Clintoon's presence at some summit in Rio in the late 90s... you know, American arrogance, and all that. But the SS was just doing its job, and damned well. Sadly, Clintoon didn't stand down the criticism, or uphold his agents. (Those agents I've met have trouble hiding their disdain for the Clintons). There is a necessary in-your-face Americanism to the SS mission to protect the President. The difference here is that the President made no apologies for it; he didn't shy from it.

With this simple, sincere and plain act, the President said it all.

Awesome!

This is a MAN!! Protocol thrown aside, he jumped into the melee when he noticed something was obiously amiss with his SS agents. Could we love him any more?? Those guys need to keep glued to his side there .. that was a suspicious and troubling situation... B**tards!!

U.S. President George W. Bush (news - web sites) and his wife, Laura arrive at the Estacion Mapocho Cultural Center at the APEC (news - web sites) Summit, Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, in Santiago, Chile. To the right is the unidentified U.S. Secret Service Agent who was originally blocked from entering. (AP Photo)

I saw that on TV! Bush is a real man, going TOWARD the melee instead of away from it.

John Kerry would have run someplace to hide until the fracas was over.

They would send someone to do it for them, but you better believe they would bring in their SS if they thought their precious lives were threatened. After all according to them, the world needs them. President Bush doesn't worry about himself, but he was worried about the agent and probably Laura as well. He's a good man.
