If that were the case, then I don't think that W would have rescued him. I think that the Chilean security forces ganged up on him and that is why W stepped in.

It says a lot when W notices that "One of his people" is getting harrassed and takes care of it. 95% of most Presidents wouldn't have intervened. They would have let the Chile security forces do what they may.

To me if says that Bush doesn't trust the Chilean government to protect him, and he is going to "protect his guys" so that they can protect him. I don't trust them either.

The tradition of the Secret Service protecting our President is over a hundred years old. This is not news to foreign governments on our soil or on foreign turf.

The Chileans acted inappropriately. This raises another question about the Secret Service agent being separated from the President in the first place. The Secret Service are not paid escorts, they shadow the President to protect him.
