HAYWARD, Wis. -- A dispute among deer hunters over a tree stand in northwestern Wisconsin erupted Sunday in a series of shootings that left five people dead and three injured, officials said.

The alleged gunman, a man from the Twin Cities area, was arrested at about 5:15 p.m. Sunday at the Rusk and Sawyer County line, according to Sawyer County sheriff's officials.

The violence began shortly after a hunting party saw a hunter occupying their tree stand, Sawyer County Chief Deputy Tim Zeigle told KSTP-TV of St. Paul, Minn. A confrontation, and shooting, followed.

The SKS is evil only because it's cheap.

Kind of like Thunderbird or Mad Dog 20/20. Or Al Franken.

Most Hmong his age are immigrants. The Hmong were staunch allies of the US during the Viet Nam war - that's why we welcome them here - the commies over there persecute them. I wouldn't hold his heritage against him.

Having said that, it ticks me off that the Fox affiliate in Green Bay is saying (repeatedly) that he used an "automatic" weapon.

This question may have already been asked, but did these victims not have their own guns with them???

That may be more than died in Fallujah today. They do take deer hunting seriously in WI! Wonder is alcohol could have had a part in this?

Well, It is really a Chinese AK47 knockoff. We have a number of hunters around here that use them.

Frankly, I find them to be lacking the accuracy for a one shot drop.

I have a friend who swears by his, but he had it modified for a scope.

You are right-o honcho. I like the heritage of the Hmong but not so much that I would be above putting this in my immigrant crime file stats.

There are many areas where you just make a point to stay away from the Hmong. This guy was alone so that might not have been pertinent, but they are known for violence in some areas. More of a gang issue, but...
Gives me the creeps. My nephews are hunting this weekend. On a positive note, my 12 year old nephew got his first deer yesterday!!

It was not a dispute over a tree stand

A Hmong decided that he did not care whether he was trespassing on private land
just appropriated a privately owned tree stand while the owner and his hunting companions
were taking a break back in their hunting cabin.

He was told to get out of the owner's stand and off the privately owned land as he was trespassing...

The Hmong went back to his vehicle, retrieved an SKS (30 Cal Semi auto military look alike)
sneaked back onto the private land and murdered the owner and his friends in cold blood.

The Hmong are a group of highly pampered (by liberals and WI law enforcement) SE Asians brought to America after the fall of Vietnam...

In my hometown they are single handedly responsible for the increase in Asian crime including drugs prostitution and gang crimes...they have ruined a beautiful rural community where people once never worried about locking their doors and and took their children for neighborhood walks in parks where they no longer dare to...

Yes the older ones were once allies of ours during the Vietnam war...however that was 35 yrs ago and their off spring are not their parents and the next generation are a nightmare...

In WI the Hmong gangs run out of Mpls through Eau Claire, Wausau to Green Bay and down through the Fox River Valley....they have also been a crime problem in LaCrosse

They have strong ties to Sacramento Calif and their tribal General has a spacious ranch in Montana...the financing source for this is at best dubious

The Homong were the premier opium poppy growers and harvesters in Laos

I have observed them on County land taking deer out of season..butchering them and firing up the campfire and having them for dinner...when the DNR was informed they did nothing

A few years back a group of them tried to intimidate one my disabled Vietnam vet buddies out of his fishing spot on lake Michigan...They actual came up to him and demanded he leave as they were taking over the pier...Though my friend left his left leg in Vietnam to booby trapped 155 mm arty round...he had been an all state linebacker in high school.....he took the first Hmong and threw him off the pier where he fell 30 ft or so to the ice cold water...when he went for the others they turned and ran..he said they did not bother him too much after that..but they gave him dirty looks whenever they saw him...he figured some day they would come for revenge and so he packed a little extra 'comfort' in his tackle box from then on..though he said fishing there never did bring the same peace for him that it once had...so he eventually just gave in and found a place to fish where they weren't.

I could related to you a hundred more stories of the crimes they have committed in Wausau WI and none of them were arrested or charged...because of their race ...and their pampered status.

My favorite is the Hmong cop they hired who was found guilty of rape...but let off and the rape charge waved...as the liberal authorities decided that he had the right to rape the girl as it was part of his heritage and a tribal mating ritual...where a perspective groom has to kidnap the bride get her away from out from under her families nose to prove his worth...

Even though I believe she was only 14 or 15 at the time...this also was appropriate for Laos and so it was decided the crime would be overlooked and did not disqualify him for the job..

IMO after having observed him at work he was the most incompetent cop the town has ever hired and they have hired some real doozies

I once saw him stop a speeder and park his squad in the middle of the road just below a hill
cars going 35 mph barely had time to react as they came over the hill and encountered the squad...wasn't smart enough to pull off to the side of the road..even the guy he pulled over was smart enough for that..

Wisconsinites were sold out by Obey and that 150K of tax payers money they collected out of what was known as the Refugee Resettlement Fund..They were also eligible for large loans with little if any interest collateral or jobs..which have been often defaulted on...the tax payers again hit up for the interest and the principles...

Its interesting to observe them around town...though unemployed many drive luxury SUVs
and have some bought some large acreage and some upscale homes...

The libs have cooked up the story of how the live communally and pool their money...

No body digs too deeply as this automatically buys you a charge of "racism"

We can thank the likes of David Obey for this crap

100% IMO and Experience 1979-1999

Sounds like an immigrant name. It seems that many Asians give their USA born kids American names. I even know immigrants directly from China who went by names like Tommy, Johnny.

The SKS is not by any means an AK-47 knockoff anymore than the M-14 is a knockoff of the M-16.

The SKS predates the AK-47 firstly. The other thing is the AK-47 fires automatic by design. Every SKS is made to fire only semi-auto. To fire fully automatic the SKS has to be re-engineered. Also the SKS is a tilt bolt design. The AK uses a rotating bolt. They share a gas piston, sight block design, and calibre. The similarities end there.

The chinese ones aren't the most accurate because it uses a pressed barrel but a decent Yugoslavian or Russian is as accurate as any carbine of it's day.

Excuse the bad taste, but I can't help remembering Tom Leher's "Deer Hunter Song"

People ask me how I do it and I say there's nothin' to it.
You just stand there lookin' cute, and when somethin´moves you shoot.
So I tied them to my bumper and got them home somehow...
Two game wardens, seven hunters and a pure-bred Guernsey cow.

The 7.62X39 ammo that this rifle shoots is just about the ballistic twin of a 30-30. It leaves the muzzle a little slower, but because of the difference in bullet construction, it pulls even with the 30-30 at a hundred yards.
The liberals will be calling this a high powered assault weapon when in truth it is considered just adequate for deer hunting. In the western US, it doesn't shoot flat enough or hit hard enough to be seriously considered for mule deer or elk. If he had been using one of my hunting rifles, all of these guys would be dead. This is a story about a man that got stupid and didn't want people telling him what he could and couldn't do. The rifle was just the tool he chose to use.

He would have been ~6 y/o when he came here. He grew up here. just for perspective.

Thanks for the local view.

When I read "Hmong Community" I thought "uh, oh, this sounds like yet another stupid liberal social experiment gone bad".

Since I'd pratically never heard of a "Hmong" I at least did a little reading about them, but mostly read about them being our allies in Vietnam.

Sounds like the mass Somali immigration to Maine, which, I believe was a State Dept. scheme. It ain't gonna work. They're gonna have to spread them out all over the country, or ship them back to where they came from.

It's okay if people dribble in and get assimilated, but you just can't import whole cultures, there will always be friction.

We really need to take a Borg attitude. YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED.

I guess this is why John Kerry crawls on his belly and uses a shotgun when he goes deer hunting.

There is a public WMA near the Twin Cities, Carlos Avery. Not to many people hunt there during the firearms season anymore because the place is overrun by Hmongs, who have no sportsmanlike ethics, and opening day is like being in 'Nam. I'm surprised that something like this hasn't happened there, or more 'accidental' shootings haven't occured. And of course - if you were to report them you'd probably be told you are insensitive to their needs...

Yeah, not familiar with the internals, my comment was more on the lines and looks.

I don't own one, but I have plinked with one. I suppose they would make a good brush gun, but I would much rather have a mini for that, or even a 30-30.
