Awakened by a loud bang and the ring of their doorbell, an interracial couple peered out the front window of their Long Island home at 3 a.m. yesterday and saw a cross burning on the front lawn.
They said they immediately called the Suffolk County police, but by the time officers arrived, rain had doused the fire. The police removed the cross, which was three feet tall and made from the slats of a picket fence. By yesterday afternoon, the only remaining trace was a charred circle of grass outside the building, a two-family house in the southwest corner of Lake Grove.

Detective Sgt. Robert Reecks said that the police and the F.B.I. were investigating the incident as a hate crime, but that there were no suspects.
It was the county's first cross-burning since 1998, when a black family in Amityville returned home from church and found a burning cross on their lawn.
The Lake Grove home is a modest green split-level occupied by the couple, who rent the first floor, and another family upstairs.
The couple, who were not identified by the police, said that they had known each other for 30 years, had been married for 22 years and had lived in the house for 8. But they said that yesterday was the first time they felt attacked because of their relationship. The wife is white, and the husband is black.
"My first gut reaction was, how could this happen in the 21st century?" said the wife, who spoke only on the condition that she not be identified because she feared another attack. "I don't understand prejudice."

Dark secret about New York...its more racially devided than the South.
In fact...the first time I saw whites and blacks living in the same neighborhood was when I left New York and lived in north Carolina for a summer in 1982.
Wouldn't be surprised if it was a Lib kid who "swears" conservatives do this stuff, but since they don't he's going to do it for them...kind of like the black female professor who vandalized her own car, then called it a hate crime.
If there are people out there who claim to be conservative and do this kind of stuff, they are not welcome in "Jesusland".
Many Northern states are very segregated. Texas is not as segregated.

Yeah, don't you though! They are just the epitome of "Enlightenment" aren't they West Coast? Got to laugh at the hypocrisy of it all. However, I would like to say, maybe it wasn't the neighbors fault in Amityville, maybe it was some ghosts-you know ghosts don't like Black folk! LOL. Could've been some poltergeists that lit the cross in that case, you know how famous Amityville is for things like that. (Shoot after seeing Amityville Horror there is no way you could get me a mile within that place!)
It's probably like that in most Northern and Midwestern states.
An example in my state is Detroit and Warren right next to each other. Warren is very white (I think still 90%) and Detroit is about 88% black.

Actually, the South Shore of Lawn Guyland in most of Nassau and western Suffolk aint exactly the most racially tolerant place in the world. I grew up there.
I hope this isn't like a case my brother was familiar with when he lived in Mississippi
for a few years.
He worked with a black lady who married a white fellow. She told him that the worst flack they caught was from members of her church.
Its a good thing that y'all Northerners taught us how we should treat folks unike ourselves..

They actually banned high school football games one year in the mid-60s because of racial violence.
Yankeeland has always been that way. Alexis de Tocqueville even noticed it was more segregated than the south when he visited in the 1830's!
They also have a long history of being hypocrites when it comes to segregation. Read the platform passed by the "radical republicans" in 1868 during the height of radical reconstruction. There's a plank that basically says southern states should have to give full rights to blacks but northern states, since they remained "loyal" in the civil war, should be left at their own discretion whether or not they want to do the same.
An interracial couple would feel the heat in the black community too. MSM just doesn't focus on black bigotry because that is impossible in the MSM's template. The scene in Jungle Fever between Queen Latifa and the italian white girl (forgot her name), having an affair with Wesley Snipes, is very real for some in the black community.
Problems faced by interracial couples is universal. Japanese don't marry Japanese of Korean descent. Indians don't marry Pakis, even if they are the same ethnic lineage. Royals generally don't marry commoners.
