I used to fly them, hooked up, all the time. However, if it was going to be close at minimums, I'd unhook it and hand-fly just so I didn't have to transition close to landing.

The C-172 I'm renting out of AVL these days has Bendix/King KAP-140 in the panel, but I haven't learned how to use it to fly an ILS approach yet.

Is 1000 fpm about right for the approach speed of a Gulfstream?
