Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Odessa and Crimea Condemn Yushchenko Supporters

"The actions of Viktor Yushchenko supporters raise deep concerns," reads a text upheld by the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv and Odessa regional councils, and the High Council of the Crimean Autonomous Republic. "All attempts to illegally and forcefully overturn the results of the election cannot be justified even by the presence of violations during the second round of the presidential election in Ukraine."

"The violations were recorded in all regions of the country and thousands of them were carried out by Yushchenko supporters. We are appalled by the gross insults from the mouths of opposition leaders toward millions of Ukrainian people who cast their votes for the winner of this election, Viktor Yanukovych.

"We insist that the interference in Ukraine's internal politics by foreign supporters and sponsors of Viktor Yushchenko who are trying to instigate a Georgian scenario in Ukraine and take away the right of the Ukrainian people to elect a president be stopped.

"Actions by the opposition will unavoidably lead to the breakup of the country and will put at risk Ukraine's achievements in the spheres of democracy and economic development. The existence of Ukraine as a nation is being threatened.

"That is why we believe that any problems, including the process and the results of the presidential election, should be resolved according to the Constitutional law of Ukraine.

"Viktor Yanukovych has made the first step by announcing that he is ready to incorporate the opinions of Yushchenko supporters and find respectable positions for their leaders in the new state power system. It is time for the opposition to demonstrate if it is truly democratic and patriotic.

"We are warning that the 15 million voters who elected Viktor Yanukovych are ready to protect their choice."

Considering that the opposition is backed by the adorable Soros and company. Hell, why did we not like Soros financing Kerry, then? Of course, we can just ignore the double standard as one more nation goes Soros, the man has done soooo much good for this world, don't you agree?

Interestingly, this position comes from one the more Russified, and also primarily Orthodox, parts of the country.
The more Western-oriented and far more Catholic areas, including Ukraine's second largest city Lviv, seem pretty much fully in support of Yushchenko.

If Putin and his corrupt, pro-Russian, "former communist" stooges in Kiev are looking for another Hungary '56 or Czechoslavakia '68 - they'll get it!

Um, as far as I know 1. Yushchenko is also a former communist. 2. Yushchenko is owned by Soros. 3. Yushchenko and his party tried to pass a bill to pull their 1,700 soldiers out of Iraq. So what's your position on Soros and Iraq?

I wouldn't be so quick to put down Yushchenko just because he's gotten support from Soros. We know that Soros is fond of Eurosocialist bootlickers, but Europe is full of them. And it's still better than anyone that the Kremlin would prefer to have running the Ukraine. Naturally, there are no guarantees that this new fellow will turn things around, but I'm not sure that even Russia would be clever enough to have an eastern-European billionaire help elect a candidate that will keep the Ukraine under Russia's control.

Plainly I have no use for Soros and his seemingly ego-driven U.S. and assorted international attempts at political manipulation.
Many Ukrainian patriots who support the concept of a truly independent nation finally free of Russian interference also have little use for Soros' meddling and, in fact, he's been publicly attacked and told to get out by same.
Look at it this way:
We support the ideal of America as envisioned within the most magnificent and fair-minded document ever constructed in the English language:
The U.S. Constitution.
While we can and should question the motives of someone like John Kerry when he says he does too, this doesn't take away from either the legitimacy of our support or the ideal.
Surely we can't deny the similar inalienable right of the Ukrainian people to national self-determination no matter who else claims to also support it and regardless of how selfish and self-serving we believe their motivation(s) for doing so to be?

Besides, even a painted clock is right twice a day:

The Freedom Square in Kharkiv, one of the largest squares in Europe, is crowded with people, protesting against election fraud. They wear orange colors of freedom and independence.

The city council meeting is about to begin. We hope that officials of Kharkiv will join people's vote by
declaring their support to the real people's president Victor Yushshenko.

It's also more than worth noting that Yushchenko and the reform movement enjoy the support of the World Ukrainian Congress and virtually every other international Ukrainian ex-pat organization.

Considering the man you support is backed by the EU socialist weenies, Soros and his socialist buddies and the Greens, oh yeah, tell me more. By the way, until this, Ukraine had a 13% growth in GDP.
