The September 11 attacks still reverberate profoundly. Of that, there is no better indication than George W. Bush's decisive reelection. For all the trendy talk about "values voters," the campaign was run principally on national-security issues, and the president won a surprisingly large majority. The nation was convinced that he had a superior handle on how to keep us safe.
And there's a reason for that conviction: In the three years since 9/11 and the still-unsolved anthrax scare that followed hard on it, the U.S. has not suffered a domestic terrorist attack. One might ask: Is that truly attributable to President Bush's stewardship? After all, we are continually told that Islamist militants are gifted with preternatural reservoirs of patience; could it not be that we are simply in another cyclical downturn, a calm before the next inevitable storm?
Not a chance. The failure of al-Qaeda, its affiliates, and assorted Wahhabi wannabes to strike us when we have every indication they are desperately trying to is a direct result of the Bush doctrine, announced and implemented in the aftermath of 9/11. The president, the Pentagon, and the Justice Department are to be commended for persevering in it despite a relentless barrage of criticism from the media, civil-liberties extremists, and, regrettably, too many Democrats. Especially salient on this score have been two aspects of the doctrine: a comprehensive strategy that brings to bear all of government's arsenal, and the admonition to state sponsors that they will be considered just as culpable, and will be treated with the same lethality, as the terrorists they abet. Most of all, however, success has been the result of getting serious.

WHY? HARD WORK!
Why? Because John Kerry had a plan!!!
Good read...
Karl Rove hasn't given the greenlight yet. /DU posting off
I don't know why but ONE thing is for sure. The MSM will NOT credit it to George Bush!!
Past tense is important, here.
However, they will attack us again.. Let us not get complacent..
Always expect an attack. That way we won't get complacent.
I figure its a question not of if, but when.
Remember, our side has to be right every day, they only have to be right once to get through the anti terrorist screen.
I hope this doesn't rile anyone's feathers, but allow me to pose a theoretical question... paranoid but theoretical. What if the war on terror is just a diversion meant to distract us from a larger enemy?
Are we really just battling Al-Quaeda and other Islamofacists or are there behind-the-scenes major player/nation-states that are vying for our destruction and have in effect launched a proxy war? /tin foil posting off
In fact, the nation knew he was the ONLY candidate with a handle on the matter.
Remember all the talk about an AQ/UBL wanting to thwart the U.S. election? The best he could do was a stupid video parroting John Kerry's themes.....
A more rosy explanation may be that AQ is not as formidable an enemy as first thought. Once their sanctuary of Afghanistan was removed and most of its top leadership killed or captured, AQ is no longer capable of mounting a significant attack against our homeland. However, I believe the former is the case. AQ is still planning a major attack, perhaps between now and the inauguration.
That's the beauty of President Bush's vision: The War on Terror encompasses rogues states, state-sponsors of terror, as well as independant and loosly affiliated groups. This is also why it will take many years to win. War by proxy is a big part of it, but not all of it.
Thanks to President Bush and his administration taking action.
We will never know how many attacks have been stopped because of the hard work that the admistration has done. I suspect that neumerous attacks have been stopped or not planned due to hard work from our government.
Keep up the good work, god bless!!
More likely than the belief that we have decimated their ability to hit us again, IMO.
Yes, God bless our leaders and our military. I think it has a lot to do with the coalition crippling the enemy's financial network and taking out a whole lot of their leadership and international connections, too.
Domestic security is a total failure with porous borders and coddling of illegals it is a miracle there have not been any more serious attacks.
I mostly credit the vigilance and heightened awareness of most Americans with the fact that we have been safe at home.
BUMP
I think the terrorists learned not to mess with the US!!
