AP: GOP's Rossi Wins Wash. Governor Recount
AP ^ | November 24, 2004

Posted on 11/24/2004 1:05:57 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

Republican Dino Rossi came out ahead of Democrat Christine Gregoire by just 42 votes Wednesday in the recount for Washington governor, but the Democrats are expected to demand yet another recount.

The contest was the nation's last undecided race for the governor.

The machine recount of 2.8 million ballots left Rossi just 42 votes ahead of Gregoire, the state attorney general. That makes it the closest governor's race in Washington history.

Rossi had also won the original count, but his 261-vote margin was so small it triggered an automatic recount.

The Republicans called on Gregoire to concede and not drag the state through a third count that could stretch until Christmas week or longer. But even before the last big surge of ballots was tallied, Democrats had signaled they would seek a hand recount in at least part of the state.

Rossi, 45, a self-made real estate millionaire and former state Senate budget chairman from the Seattle suburb of Sammamish, was hoping to become the first Republican since 1980 to get elected governor. He ran on a platform of change and job-creation.

Gregoire, 57, was hoping to become the state's second woman governor. She carried eight of the 39 counties, most notably the largest, King, which includes heavily Democratic Seattle. Gregoire was strongly backed by the women's movement and was best known for battling America's tobacco industry.

You've got to keep recounting until it comes out the way you want it to. I believe that's in chapter 1 of the Democrat playbook.

OK Washington Legal Eagle Freepers. Is there any legal basis for ordering yet another recount?

"the Democrats are expected to demand yet another recount."

Whoa...even the AP seems to be treating the Dems' failure to accept reality with some degree of scorn.

...Democrats had signaled they would seek a hand recount in at least part of the state

And we all know what part of the state they will choose.

I guess the Democrats are going to insist they count the votes until they get the answer they're looking for. What makes anyone confident that a hand count will be more accurate than a machine count? Isn't that why we had the Industrial Revolution - to make repetitive tasks easier?

I'm having a Florida flashback. I think I said the same thing 4 years ago.

Sounds like SoreLoserman all over again. Just count where you might be able to add bogus votes.

Based on the final tally, it seems that Gregoire picked up about 220 votes in King County; prior to today, his lead was about 260 votes. So the Dems will keep on counting in King Co until they get the right answer.

Isn't it funny how the Dems always fail at manufactuering enough votes the 1st time around and then they fail the 2nd time as well during their recount.

Oh well. . . I guess 3rd times a charm. . .

Concede!! Concede!!

Creepy Demo state chairman was just on CNN screaming that the Republicans are trying to deny people the right to vote, trying to suppress votes, etc. They always read from the same slimy script.

Rossi is a fool if he settles for anything less than a statewide
recount of every ballot.

So, I was glad to hear the news, yet the Secretary of State site does not yet have the results from Kitsap county and the current tally favors Gregoire! Show me the numbers!!!

I'm confused; on another thread, there was a link to the official state recount site, and it showed Gregoire ahead by more than 1,000 votes as of 12:34 p.m.

LOL!!!

This was just so funny I had to share it here. I got this off of the DU pertaining to the same subject.

"Electronic voting machine tallies almost always favor republicans. So a hand recount may cinch it for Gregoire. But one thing we know - any republicans that are counting ballots by hand will have to constantly be put under a microscope or they will definitely cheat."

LOL!!! uuuhhhhhh so a machine has political leanings??? Is that what I hear the loons claiming??? AHAHAHAA!!! The sad part is that the borg mentality over there will just parrot this idiocy.

I also love how they think that they're taking such a "risk" by handcounting heavily left leaning district only.
