We spent Thanksgiving Day with my in-laws; it was just his parents and they are wonderful people who are conservatives (none of his liberals siblings were there, but we're just postponing the inevitable comments until Christmas, I fear). We were even able to share jokes with them about the election!

Then today, we went to my side of the family for a belated Thanksgiving dinner. My parents are rock-solid conservatives, but would NEVER bring up politics at a holiday meal, and wouldn't allow anyone else to do so either in case it spoils someone's day. Frankly, I don't think most of my relatives are "political" enough for this election to have unhinged them, even if they were voting for sKerry and the guy with that thing on his lip.

It is just really hard to fathom how people have become so insane about this election; you would think that they would realize they are only creating caricatures of themselves. They have raised delusional thinking to the level of parody.

We had a very pleasant Thanksgiving at Nam Vet's home. Mrs. Nam Vet made a fantastic dinner for our sons and one of the boy's girlfriend. She used to be a typical Portland socialist, but has lost all of that lib thought. Seems logic and reason win out over time. Besides, she didn't have a chance with him being remaining a lib .

As far as lib friends and/or family, I just cut them out a few years ago when they lost all reason and sanity during the time the 'Buffoon' was in office. Life is better than ever !! Now I proudly display my political signs in our yard and STILL sport my "Swift Boat Vet for Bush" sign on my car.

It is funny. I told her that I believed that Iraq, in my opinion is the beginning of WW4 and is essentially a clash of civilizations. She didn't even have a framework for that throught.

I've been there too. I'm active on other forums, mainly role playing games like Twilight: 2000 and Morrow Project. Most of us gamers there tend to lean conservative, although we don't agree on EVERYTHING of course, but we are generally on the same page so we don't fight there. I'm also an avid reader, mainly science fiction and post-apocalyptic/nuclear war stories although I have a fondness for the Victorian/Edwardian era literature too. One of my favorite books of the period, don't laugh, is "Anne of Green Gables." What I liked about the story was how Anne depite all the odds against her perservered and kept trying, conservative values if I do say so myself. B-) Well, I was active on a few forums about "Anne..." until recently because when we discussed politics, most tend to be left of center to downright Communist. When I mentioned that we are fighting World War III with the Moslem world (OK World War IV for you Boortz listeners), boy the lefties went ballistic on me, I felt like a B-17 with a bunch of Messerschmidts swarming around me. B-) I still go there from time to time, but still it ain't the same since the election. There are conservatives there too, mainly Christian leaning and one even started his own board on "Anne."

It's like the old adage, "brother against brother." I figured I had to share my experiences too.

Pardon me fo jumping into your convo with mlmr, but I really wish I could learn this skill. I usually get to the point where my blood pressure gets the better of me and I blow off steam LOL -- not to the point where I start using non-sequitors or ad hominems, but I get pretty scruffy. Anne of Green Gables is a wonderful book about conservative values. My children read the old stories. The new fiction for children and adults, stinks!
