Help Question On: Spyware & Parasite Blockers

Does anyone know a good tool to get rid of and block spyware,parasites,adware, viruses and other crap. I think Drudge has it on his web site. I surf but not a huge amount but the crap is getting too much.

These advertising parasites also come as worms, viruses, trohans etc.

I have tried free AdAware 6.0, free Spybot and the latest is the Giant AntiSpyware on a free trial. Giant seems the best but a lot of crap is still there.

I also run Norton (worthless on most of this stuff), Solo (great AV program) plus have used free Panada and AVG in the past.

The Internet is rapidly becoming a waste of time for me. I tried to stick to mainly newsweb sites and links off Drudge. I am thinking of switching to Mozilla's browser as MSFT IE appears to be crap.

Help. Any suggestion appreciated. Also let's give thanks to American trrops protecting us on this day.

I use Spy Sweeper, plus the Freebies, AdAware & SpyBot and keep most everything cleaned off to where my computer runs about as fast as when new 3 years ago. Read good reviews of these products at CNet.com, and Consumer Reports had a good review of them recently. These three products rated very highly, so did Pest Patrol, but cost of it is high and not as user friendly as the others. Good Luck!

I don't know why so many are scared of Drudge. It has been my homepage for years now, and if spyware gets put on there, I am just taking it right back off, so it doesn't matter.

Someone should give Drudge a clue on this. He's losing hits over it. Probably a lot of hits.

Those intrusive ads really are ridiculous. I mean, who in the world ever even clicks on them? All they do is hijack your computer and plant some nastiness on your hard drive.

Ditto on Mozilla Firefox for browsing!!! IE is chock full of holes.

And another good anti-virus package is Kaspersky Personal Pro (http://www.kaspersky.com/personalpro). They have cumulative, weekly, and daily updates.

The best defense is always a good offense.

Just a suggestion. I had a trojan or worm that kept giving me popups. Very annoying. Norton, AVG and Panda found it but they gave me instructions to remove - no easy task.

I found Solo AntiVirus. It found it and removed it. I was impressed. Solo has a free trial and you can search for it on Goggle. It seems to be a good one.

I've found that Norton Antivirus seriously messes with my Windows 98 and ME. Also, Norton is terrible about refunding rebates that come with their software.

I use Ad Aware SE Personal and Spybot and find they usually do the job.

I visit Drudge all the time and have no problems.

You need to run Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.05 (free), Spybot Search and Destroy, and the related Spyware Blaster. Also occasionally run CWShredder. And I swear by Ad Muncher, which blocks popups and banners. Most of the spyware either comes from visiting porn or music download sites or from advertising links that have been hacked. Ad Muncher blocks a lot of that and saves time loading sites too. It costs a bit but is well worth it. Very clean, well-designed, and small footprint.

I have gotten rebates from Norton for years without a hitch. Just got another one back, a $20 one and it came in about 2 weeks.

ZoneAware does make your computer boot up much slower. And there were problems after the release of WinXP-SP2 and with the early versions of ZoneAlarm 5. But the latest version of ZoneAlarm (5.5.062) has finally cut back on the bugs and the amount of memory used. It's a considerable improvement.

I once went to Drudge and immediately found myself in a pop-up cycle where if I 'X'ed out of one ad, the other popped back up, over and over. I couldn't get rid of it until I restarted my computer.

It's the ads. Like most active pages, Drudge probably has agreements that open him up to sabotage from outside his site. Or possibly you already had the problem and visiting Drudge just set it off. Anyway, with my combination of programs I've never had trouble with Drudge, and it's been a couple of years since I saw any of his ads.

Use the programs mentioned....they help. I went back to windows 98 for the internet. While it can't do everything, I get less annoying things happening. It is certainly find for browsing FreeRepublic.
